The 2025 Catalyst Academy, hosted by Project UNITY, is an 8-week virtual program (June 9 – August 2, 2025) designed to cultivate early leaders in medicine, public health, and digital health. Last Saturday, we wrapped up our Gen AI for Students program, in which students learned about #AI and how they can leverage its powerful uses in various careers and accelerate their learning! It was an honor to be the Program Director for Gen AI for Students, and have students not be afraid of AI, but instead have fun with it, and be able to apply it to everyday life! During the camp, students learned about several topics, including What is AI, The details behind it (delving into neural networks, LLM’s, and different types of learning with DL, ML, etc.), How to use AI for learning, AI in different Careers (healthcare, education, meteorology, music, gaming etc.), the Ethics of AI, and making a Computer Vision Project, and all of these sections had a hands-on activity to help solidify understanding. Thanks so much to our guest speakers, Yajur Sehra, Rohin Juneja, Pallavi Shete, Dr. Ashish Atreja, MD, MPH, for making AI accessible to all! Also, thank you to our Bootcamp Facilitator, Abigail Chan, for all the great media of the event! Additionally, a big thank you to the Dynamic Coalition on Gaming for Purpose (DC-G4P), a part of the Internet Governance Forum, a subset of the United Nations, for reviewing and verifying our course curriculum! The 2024 UNITY Innovation in Public Health Conference was transformative! With over 160 attendees from across the U.S., Project UNITY proudly showcased 12+ cutting-edge #publichealthinnovations — developed and led by our visionary youth. These initiatives tackle today’s most pressing issues, integrating the Quintuple Aim Model and NEW #digitalhealthsolutions. A special shoutout to our Catalyst Academy students from 18+ states and Canadian regions for their remarkable leadership and creativity! This summer, I had the pleasure of being selected as one of the research interns for the Project UNITY Summer Catalyst Academy. This program has been invaluable in my path towards healthcare. Throughout these rigorous 8 weeks, I explored multiple pathways in the realm of healthcare and was pushed to defy the boundaries of what I was used to. During my time at the Catalyst Academy, I followed "The Innovation Roadmap," which involved selecting a medical topic, conducting stakeholder interviews, developing a 12-month plan of action, completing a final research paper backed by an evidence-based literature review, and presenting at regional and national conferences. Our research team, with members from Ohio, Illinois, Georgia, and Texas, selected the topic of Peripheral Artery Disease. After collaborating with our stakeholder, Maggie Van Soelen MSN, APRN, FNP-BC at MIMIT Health, our team crafted an evidence-based intervention tailored to Atlanta, Georgia. We hope to have our work published in the International Collegiate Journal of Sciences (ICJS) in a few months! As my journey with Catalyst Academy comes to an end, I want to express my infinite gratitude to my mentor, Lana Kim, for guiding me every step of the way, and to Morish Shah and Pranav Mehta for pushing me to believe in myself.
