An effort to improve data interoperability within K-12 education.
关于我们
Project Unicorn is an effort to improve data interoperability within K-12 education. We aim to create a community of innovators who make the broader case for secure interoperability by determining shared priorities, working in partnership with school systems and vendors to understand its importance and benefits, creating a demand side push for interoperability through partnerships, and educating buyers to consider the total cost of ownership through informed comparison of vendors. We believe solving data interoperability challenges facing districts and schools is critical to ensuring that teachers have the information they need to do their jobs and to innovate in instructional practices.

Meet Clare. Students like her exist all over this country. Together, we are Moving with the Mission to solve this challenge. Learn more and sign the commitment: https://lnkd.in/gdmwG77k Students with disabilities, on average, wait 4.7 months for special education services to be implemented when they transfer schools as their military-connected parents and guardians move from assignment to assignment, according to Partners in PROMISE. One barrier to students with disabilities receiving timely services is the lack of information about their needs contained within their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Ensuring secure and interoperable data transfer would significantly reduce this service interruption while ensuring students' strengths are recognized, and educators have the right information to personalize instruction and meet students’ needs. Stakeholders in the K-12 education space are working together to address this need for military families, intending to support other highly mobile student populations. Interested parties, particularly developers of student information systems (SIS) and digital IEP or Section 504 plan products, are invited to sign the U.S. Department of Education commitment and assist in making these data more interoperable, portable, and secure. https://lnkd.in/gAcYt_iu

I’m so thrilled that this work is moving forward with the ability of organizations, #edtech companies, districts, and states to join Moving with the Mission. I’m especially grateful to some early ally’s in the disability rights community including National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD), Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), Understood.org and others who deeply informed this work. I’m thrilled to have been able to deepen partnership with amazing organizations like Partners in PROMISE and Blue Star Families who provided such deep and amazing insights into this work. And of course, I can’t imagine we’d be able to do this work without the leadership of the Office of the First Lady The White House and our dedicated colleagues at U.S. Department of Education. Please join us as we fight on behalf of military children, and our service members who dedicate their lives to this country and whose children (like all highly mobile children) should have access to their own data on day one in their new school. Join us and make a commitment Project Unicorn is thrilled to share Moving with the Mission. The goal is to empower seamless IEP transitions for military children, addressing the over 4 month wait for special education services. This initiative aims to provide timely and personalized support for all highly mobile student populations by focusing on secure data transfers. Learn more and sign the commitment: https://lnkd.in/gdmwG77k Together, we can reduce service wait times and ensure every child receives the support they deserve. ???? #MovingWithTheMission #MilitaryFamilies #JoiningForces Dream team - Zac C. How can we design technology standards and systems to support data #interoperability and #portability for high-mobility student populations? The U.S. Department of Education Office of Educational Technology launched the Interoperability, Efficiency, and Portability Commitment to improve data sharing, portability, interoperability, and security associated with IEP and 504 plans. Join us in signing this pledge to meet the needs of high-mobility students: https://loom.ly/i3HztYw

Sometimes when I tell people that I work with "data interoperability" I'm frankly met with blank stares! It can be a lot to untangle, but at it's base, we mean a scenario where "student data flows seamlessly between systems, empowering educators with a complete view of each learner, streamlining administrative tasks, and enabling data-driven decision-making for improved and equitable educational outcomes," as Mike Baur explains. Project Unicorn assesses the current state of the K-12 field in achieving #datainteroperability. Mike has some thoughts on what they found: https://lnkd.in/gAQfcTED #eddata
