This #InternationalWomensDay, we celebrate women's strength, resilience, and leadership, from our women-led team in both the US and Nicaragua to the women in the communities where we work. ?????? According to the World Bank, the burden of fetching water falls primarily on women and girls—often at the cost of their education, economic opportunities, and well-being. Access to safe water is more than a basic need. It’s a transformative force for gender equity. When clean water is available at home, girls stay in school, women gain time for income-generating activities, and communities thrive. This #IWD2025, let’s recognize the power of safe water in advancing gender equality. Want to get involved? Send us a message at [email protected] ???

A fresh start for a new school year! ???? In Nicaragua, the school year kicks off in January, and at the Alexis Argüello School, students are stepping into a brighter future! ???? Thanks to the current Ponso?a multi-community project, this school has been refreshed and repaired, providing a safe and dry space for learning. Now, these students can dive into learning new subjects, reading books, and studying with focus. ?? Starting the year on a high note! ???? We're excited to share progress on the Ponso?a multi-school and community water project! Repairs are now complete at Alexis Argüello School, the second of five schools needing improvements and repairs as part of the Ponso?a multi-community project. Thanks to our dedicated team and volunteers, the school now features new latrines, a classroom divider, fencing to keep livestock out of the schoolyard, and freshly rehabbed swings for the students. We’re excited to have created a safer and more inspiring space for children to learn and thrive! ?????? And, a big thank you to our key partner in this project, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Swipe right to see the new improvements and spot the before and after.

We are thrilled to share fantastic news! ?????? The first of the 2 schools in phase 1 of the Ponso?a multi-community project has been completed! This school is named La Ponso?ita and serves 54 students. The project added 2 additional classrooms and restored the original building which was in poor condition. The school completion was celebrated with a dance recital by the students, as pictured here. We're grateful to the community members who worked hard, volunteering their labor to build this school in record time, and to the dedicated Project Schoolhouse team in Nicaragua. And, a big thank you to our key partner in this project, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This 7-community project of la Ponso?a is made possible by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and and funded by Latter-day Saint Charities Australia. Muchas gracias! ??

This Giving Tuesday, help us bring libraries to life! ?? We’re on a mission to fund three small libraries for three new schools in Nicaragua—an essential part of our multi-community school and water project. With just $3,000, we can make this dream a reality. ?? Thanks to incredible progress from our team in Nicaragua, these schools are almost complete. Now, we need your help to fill them with books, resources, and learning opportunities. Your support is the key to turning these schools into thriving hubs for education. Will you join us? ?? https://lnkd.in/gcx7E98r

Our team in Nicaragua continues to oversee work on the first school of this multi-community project—a monumental task. In the video, you can see our team, alongside 22 family members, working together to lay the foundation for the new classrooms in La Ponso?ita - look at that teamwork! We are so grateful to the families, our team on the ground, and our supporters! Stay tuned for more updates as we progress on the new multi-community water and school project of La Ponso?a! ??

Ponso?a School Project Update: Last month, we broke ground on the multi-community water, sanitation, and school project in La Ponso?a, Matagalpa. Thanks to the high level of participation from family members volunteers, we’ve also begun repairing and constructing new classrooms in one of the schools in the project, La Ponso?ita. This school, which we’ve visited before, has been a priority due to its deteriorating condition. The student body of 54 children had outgrown the single-classroom facility, and a colony of bats had taken over the ceiling, exposing the children to potential health risks, including respiratory issues. The little lean-to on the side is, sadly, the 'preschool'. With the dedication of our team and the hard work of community volunteers, we’re relieved to report that the old ceiling has been removed, and work has begun on renovating the existing building and adding 2 new classrooms. By early 2025, these students will have a beautiful and safe school to learn in! ???? Check out the before and after photos of the construction below!
