In 2023, only 43% of all children across the United States, and 17% of Black children, could read proficiently by 4th grade. In Wisconsin, it was 45% of all 4th graders and 587 of 4,823 (or 12%) of Black 4th graders. One City Schools is working with its co-founder, Vivek Ramakrishnan, and his team at Project Read AI on research and design for their new virtual reading tutor program. Check it out at https://www.projectread.ai and watch this 1 minute video below of one of our One City Scholars learning to read with the program. The word she is trying to spell is “pages”. See her excitement at the end. We look forward to sharing more about this soon.

Project Read is an AI Co-Teacher for the Science of Reading
关于我们
Project Read builds AI-powered tools that supercharge the ability of teachers to deliver literacy instruction aligned to the Science of Reading. Teachers can quickly generate high-quality decodable stories for a chosen phonics skill with our Decodable Story Generator. Students can also read decodable stories with our AI Tutor, which listens as the student reads out loud, provides real-time intervention and gives teacher's granular data on each student's skills gaps on the phonemic level. Since release in August 2023, tens of thousands of teachers have adopted Project Read in their classrooms to drive student progress. Built by former teachers and experts in AI from Stanford, Project Read is an ambitious effort to make evidence-based literacy instruction available for all kids, regardless of income. Accessible in browsers on mobile, tablet or desktop.

Project Read AI was recently featured by Poets and Quants as one of their "most disruptive startups" from the MBA 2023 Class (https://lnkd.in/eX_iJ8PA) Across the country, 37 states have recently passed "Science of Reading" laws mandating or incentivizing public school districts to employ evidence-based strategies and curricula for teaching reading. Our AI Co-Teacher for the Science of Reading allows teachers and schools to supercharge their implementation of these instructional strategies with three innovative tools: 1) a student-facing AI Phonics Tutor, 2) Decodable Story Generator and 3) Structured Literacy Coach Chatbot.

We are excited to share that Project Read has been named to the GSV Cup 50, which spotlights the most impactful and innovative early-stage edtech startups in the world. We are grateful to GSV Ventures and ASU+GSV Summit for the honor. Less than a year ago we started Project Read, as former teachers and school leaders who saw firsthand the power of structured literacy to move the needle for kids, particularly those who need additional support. Since then we have heard countless stories from teachers whose classrooms and students' trajectories have been transformed by the introduction of our Decodable Generator and AI Tutor. We look forward to continuing to co-create the future of literacy instruction with educators across the globe.
