November last year, executives from Project Pink (Aditi Bhuvanesh, Urshitha Ravipati, Pranathi Kavi, Gayathri Vanka, Sanjana Kavula, and Isha Kurlekar) urged Frisco ISD's District Board to enhance mental health accessibility. While the district has made strides with increased counseling access and student support services, there's room for improvement. Project Pink advocates spoke out on the following issues: Transparent Funding Allocation: Frisco ISD should ensure transparency in mental health funding distribution to optimize resource allocation and program effectiveness. Peer Support Expansion: They also advocated for expanding student-led initiatives like the Student Health Advisory Council to foster peer support and representation, crucial for mental health awareness. Increased Counselor Engagement: Regular counselor check-ins focused on student well-being would strengthen student-counselor relationships and bridge the gap to essential mental health resources in students. Accessible Digital Resource Hub: Creating a centralized, multilingual digital resource hub would provide comprehensive mental health resources tailored to diverse student needs, enhancing accessibility and inclusivity. Project Pink believes these steps are crucial for creating a healthier, more supportive environment throughout the district. They commend the FISD’s efforts and urge the board to consider their proposals for further advancement in fair mental health care for all.
