As we celebrate reaching the milestone of 100 interns, we’re excited to highlight some of our amazing former interns. Meet Darius, a standout from our 2022 summer cohort! Darius's connection to Project Lemonade began when he was just 12 years old, starting as a shopper and remaining involved ever since. In 2022, he joined us as a Level 1 intern, where he brought energy and curiosity to every new experience. “Every day at Project Lemonade brought something new,” Darius shares. “I loved working alongside others and exploring different places.” One of Darius’s favorite memories was building strong connections with his fellow interns, particularly during field trips to various worksites and skill-building activities. His advice for future interns? “Be as social as possible!” Thank you to our long-time L+EARN Internship Supporters: ODHS, Summerworks, KeyBank and Bank of America. Today at Project Lemonade, we recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day. Indigenous Peoples' Day is about truth-telling and correcting historical misinformation. Today recognizes that an estimated 8-112 million people (according to UW Press) had been calling these lands their homes for centuries, that these lands were not discovered. We recognize today because Indigenous and Native youth are still over-represented in the child welfare system due to this history of colonization. We recognize today so that we can better understand the history of this land and work to repair the ongoing harms. We invite you to join is recognizing Indigenous Peoples' Day today. Please consider learning more about or making a contribution today to organizations like NAYA, The Chuush Fund or National Indian Child Welfare Association.

As we celebrate the milestone of working with 100 interns, we’re excited to highlight Namichiuo, a remarkable former intern who began her journey with Project Lemonade in a special way. Namichiuo was introduced to Project Lemonade through the Department of Human Services. Her first experience with Project Lemonade was as a shopper when she was just 9 or 10 years old. “It was a perfect match for a kid in my situation, and for others like my siblings and many other youth,” Namichiuo reflects. Her first shopping trip sparked a desire to return year after year, eventually leading her to join the intern team. Her most memorable experience? Becoming an intern and feeling grateful for the opportunity to give back. “It was like looking through a glass mirror at younger versions of myself,” she shares. “Each kid’s unique personality reminded me of my own journey, and it felt almost like an out-of-body experience.” Namichiuo learned valuable life lessons during her time at Project Lemonade, especially in understanding how to work with people from different backgrounds. “I learned to be patient and to really hear what others need, even if they’re different from me,” she explains. Her advice for future interns? “Be attentive to details—in your work, in serving youth, and in your workspace. Always be mindful and kind, because we all share similar experiences. And remember, if you start strong, finish strong! It builds your personal strength. Most importantly, we’re all human, so there’s room for mistakes and growth.” Thank you to our long-time L+EARN Internship Supporters: ODHS, Summerworks, KeyBank, and Bank of America.
