PLTW creates an engaging classroom environment unlike any other, empowering students with real-world experience.
关于我们
PLTW is an organization focused on empowering students and transforming the teaching experience – a proud tradition from the start of the organization that continues today. Since 1997, we have grown from a high school engineering program to offering comprehensive PreK-12 pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science. PLTW’s world-class, activity-, project-, and problem-based curriculum gives students a chance to apply what they know, identify problems, find unique solutions, and lead their own learning, rather than be passive recipients of information in a question-and-answer, right-or-wrong learning environment. In addition to our innovative curriculum, one of the most unique aspects of our programs is the engaging, rigorous professional development for teachers. We offer five programs of study: PLTW Launch (grades PreK-5), PLTW Gateway (middle school), PLTW Biomedical Science (high school), PLTW Computer Science (high school), and PLTW Engineering (high school). PLTW has 14,000 programs in 11,500 schools, serving millions of students and training over 55,000 teachers.

Amazing to get back in our Project Lead The Way classrooms and see students in action! There were STEM challenges, awarding a National Gateway Teacher of The Year, and students working hands-on in their Medical Dectives unit. Days like today remind me of the importance in bringing valuable opportunities to students nationwide. One bright middle schooler said: “I love working with a team and I really want try computer science too, because I want to be a video game developer when I grow up.” #FutureLooksBright

When two of your favorites come together, the results are magical! And earlier this week was a perfect example of that happening in one event! During a visit to Lockheed Martin's Manassas, Virginia, facility, I engaged with three young talented team members AND promoted STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to high school students – two of my favorite things! Hussein Abukar, Alexa Dominguez and Kasen Chunn joined me on a side trip to Gainesville High School in Prince William County as part of #NationalApprenticeshipWeek. While there, we talked to Project Lead The Way (PLTW) students about our Training Aspiring Locals to Engineer a New Tomorrow (T.A.L.E.N.T.), an engineering apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor. Recent graduates of Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS), Hussein (Class of 2020), Alexa (’22) and Kasen (’24) participate in T.A.L.E.N.T. and work for us in Manassas. Kudos to Thomas Warner and our Manassas team for receiving the 2024 SPARK Business Partnership of the Year Award for PWCS for their work promoting STEM to K-12 students. Launched in Manassas seven years ago to build our talent pipeline, T.A.L.E.N.T. provides high school graduates with the training, mentoring and hands-on experience needed for a STEM career. Since then, we have hired over 100 students as apprentices in various engineering roles. Melissa Boyle does a fantastic job leading T.A.L.E.N.T. and has successfully expanded the program to our Syracuse, Moorestown, Deer Creek and Marinette facilities. During our Gainesville visit, we engaged with the school’s PLTW students. I was so impressed with the senior Engineering Design and Development projects and all the students in the PLTW program. As recent high school graduates, Hussein, Alexa and Kasen easily related to the students and spoke with so much passion and enthusiasm. They were great ambassadors for STEM! I was honored to have served on PLTW’s Board of Directors and am excited to be succeeded by Dr. Charles Johnson-Bey. Charles and I are both proud graduates of Baltimore City Public Schools and worked together at Lockheed Martin before he moved on to Booz Allen Hamilton. He shares my passion for opening the eyes of students to the wonders of STEM, and I personally could not suggest a better addition to the PLTW board. As part of American Education Week, we are celebrating schools across the U.S. that bring PLTW’s #STEMeducation to millions of students. Many of our partners support schools in their communities through the PLTW Grants program, like PPG Industries, with open grant opportunities for schools in Alabama, North Carolina, and Ohio. Don't miss this upcoming webinar, "Empowering Students Using Computational Thinking Skills" Boost student engagement through the core concepts of computational thinking: decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithmic thinking. You'll learn how to integrate these skills into your teaching, making complex concepts more accessible and engaging for students. Our presenters will share examples of activities to encourage students to break down problems, identify patterns, develop algorithms, and think like computer scientists, even without coding. Take the next step to fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity in your classroom and continue transforming the way your students approach learning.
