When a crisis strikes, women rise to meet it—balancing professional responsibilities while often becoming the primary caregivers in times of need. This story unfolds daily, with profound consequences for women's health, particularly mental well-being. The narrative we don't discuss enough: gender significantly shapes mental health outcomes. For women, contributing factors include gender-based violence, economic inequality leading to lower socioeconomic status, diminished social standing, ongoing caregiving duties, restrictive gender-specific roles, discrimination, abuse, and more. The message is clear: women's health deserves serious attention, and mental health must be recognized as an essential component of overall health. https://lnkd.in/gJe27Z38

As violence escalates in Gaza, Project HOPE has been forced to suspend operations at all primary and maternal health clinics this week to protect the safety of our staff and patients – leaving thousands without access to health services. In addition to violence, ongoing border closures have led to critical shortages of medicines, medical supplies, and equipment. Our team has reported alarming health trends: traumatic injuries, gastrointestinal illnesses from contaminated water, malnutrition, respiratory infections, and worsening mental health conditions. We have responded to the vast health needs in Gaza since December 2023, providing vital health services including primary care, maternal health, and specialty surgical and emergency care. Project HOPE urgently calls for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and reopening of border crossings to allow humanitarian aid. "This is a modern war—nowhere is truly safe. Even cities far from the front lines can be devastated by missiles and drones in an instant." As Project HOPE's MEARL Coordinator in Ukraine, Roman doesn't just ensure aid reaches those who need it most—he transforms our humanitarian response through data-driven insights and rigorous evaluation. "The toughest part is not just responding to immediate needs but thinking ahead — how to make our interventions more effective and sustainable." Yet amidst the complexity, Roman finds profound purpose: "The most rewarding moments come when we see the impact of our work firsthand: a family receiving supplies, or a person telling us, 'You made a difference.'" Learn more about Roman's crucial work and how Project HOPE is supporting Ukrainians through this ongoing crisis. *** ?Це сучасна в?йна – н?де по-справжньому не можна почуватися в безпец?. New #WHO data highlights a devastating truth - too many mothers are losing their lives to conditions like severe bleeding and preeclampsia (conditions that are entirely treatable with timely, quality care).?Yet, in many low-income countries, women lack access to early risk detection, emergency obstetric care, or essential postnatal follow-ups. Too often, a woman’s chance of surviving childbirth depends on where she lives and whether she can reach lifesaving care in time. That shouldn’t be the case. At?Project HOPE, we’re working to change this by strengthening health systems, training frontlineworkers, and ensuring that women receive the care they need (before, during, and after childbirth).?The solutions exist. Now, we need the collective will to ensure they reach the women who need them most. Let’s not look away. Let’s #advocate, #invest, and ensure every mother has a chance to survive and thrive.

"Oh, I dream of peace. That this war would end by the end of this year. The most important thing is for people to stop dying—our guys, women, children." - Oleksandr, Odesa, Ukraine Meet the founders of "Vikna" (Windows), a band formed at Veterans Hub, a space for veterans to come together and support one another in Odesa, Ukraine. The band is an outlet from the ongoing violence, providing solace for its members and bringing joy to those who need it. Their dream? "We want to travel to hospitals, perform in the most remote villages, because people there are completely abandoned. It's important to give them a sense of support, brotherhood, and community." Their dreams extend beyond themselves, playing for others so that they remember something good, that they listen and smile. In a time of darkness, it's these selfless dreams of bringing peace to others that inspire the deepest hope.

Project HOPE is actively engaging with local partners to launch a response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). ? Goma, in the DRC, has become the epicenter of an escalating humanitarian crisis since violence erupted in January. The conflict has already claimed the lives of 3,000 people and left 2,000 more injured. More than one million people have been displaced, with 350,000 forced to survive without any form of shelter.? ? Our hearts are with all who have been impacted by this compounding crisis.

Gaza's borders have been blocked for nearly two weeks, leaving two million people without food, medicine, and supplies. Project HOPE has had ultrasound machines and 35,000 hygiene kits ready to enter Gaza and this continued delay has jeopardized our ability to provide critical diagnostic services for pregnant women at our clinics and to manage hygiene and sanitation needs.?? If the closures continue, delayed shipments of critically needed medicine, medical equipment, and hygiene materials could lead to pregnancy complications, the spread of waterborne diseases, and preventable deaths. We continue reiterating our call for all parties to ensure unrestricted humanitarian access to all parts of Gaza with the immediate reopening of all border crossings. https://lnkd.in/eUcBb_XF?
