The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah opens a vital window to address Lebanon’s severe humanitarian crisis and will hopefully allow residents to return home on both sides of the border. The conflict has killed over 3,600 people and forced more than one million to flee their homes.? ? Lebanon urgently needs sustained international support. Over two million people need humanitarian assistance. There have been more than 130 attacks on health facilities, and many are completely out of commission. Pharmacy shelves sit empty while communities wait for vital shipments to arrive. Health care workers – who have worked continuously for two months, sleeping in hospitals away from their families – are at their breaking point. Lebanon’s health system was already fragile before this crisis. The psychological wounds of this conflict run deep, and mental health support will be crucial for communities to heal. Without immediate international aid and long-term investment, this health emergency will claim more lives long after the guns go silent.

At 29, Etiel* knows the deep impact violence can have physically, mentally, and emotionally. After experiencing family-based violence, trauma, and years of depression, she is finding hope in our psychosocial support teams in Haiti. The reality is stark: nearly 1 in 3 women worldwide—736 million—have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime (UN Women). Behind each statistic is a story like Etiel's. 'Working with Project HOPE helped me find my voice again,' Etiel shares. In Torbeck, South Haiti, where Etiel lives, many families face crushing financial pressure and food insecurity. These daily struggles often intensify the risk of gender-based violence. Our dedicated team, including psychosocial support officer Belouse Cadet and social worker Myriam Cérisier, works tirelessly to: - Provide trauma-informed care to survivors - Lead community education sessions on GBV prevention - Create safe spaces for healing and support This #16DaysOfActivism, stand with Etiel and countless other women in Haiti. Together, we can break the cycle of violence. Learn more about our work in Haiti: https://lnkd.in/g-tB_bad #16DaysofActivism #16Days #OrangeTheWorld USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance

#COP29 may have ended, but the #ClimateCrisis hasn’t - and neither has the impact it’s having on health. While I wasn’t there in person, the takeaways are crystal clear - climate change isn’t just an environmental crisis, it’s a #HealthEmergency, one that’s overwhelming already fragile health systems around the world. The numbers are sobering. Over 1 billion people are at risk from climate hazards like heatwaves and flooding. Rising temperatures are worsening chronic diseases. Floods are cutting off access to care. Health workers are under immense strain, facing challenges that grow with every climate event. These aren’t just statistics - they represent real people and communities whose health systems are being pushed to the brink. But here’s the good news - we know what works!! Resilient health systems save lives, protect the vulnerable, and prepare us for the shocks ahead. Investing in climate-resilient health systems is investing in a future where communities can thrive, even in the face of climate uncertainty. At Project HOPE, we’re committed to building those systems, empowering health workers, and ensuring health is central to every climate conversation. Because a healthy planet means healthier people -and that’s something worth fighting for. #ClimateandHealth #GlobalHealth #HSS #HealthEquity

In war, children bear the heaviest burden. When schools, hospitals, and homes are destroyed, children lose access to safety, health care, and the mental health support they desperately need. For over two years, the health care heroes at Kherson Regional Children’s Hospital have courageously continued their vital work, providing lifesaving care to injured children and newborns, and offering crucial psychological support to help families persevere —all while enduring occupation and relentless shelling. "We realize that we are very much needed here. There is a great need for children's doctors," says Yulia, a general practitioner at the Kherson Regional Children's Hospital. It is devastating to witness the mass displacement of the people of Haiti due to persistent conflict. Violent gang attacks in Gressier, about 12 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince, led to a mass displacement of residents who now survive in makeshift camps across Léogane. People are living in earthquake-damaged buildings and camps that lack running water or electricity. When it rains, water pools on the ground, exposing them to skin conditions and infectious diseases. Project HOPE is on the ground with support from USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance assessing needs to expand primary health care, including mental health services and case management for survivors of gender-based violence, and improving water, sanitation, and hygiene standards. ??To stand with the people of Haiti, please visit https://lnkd.in/g-tB_bad

The Project HOPE team is deeply saddened to announce the loss of Dr. Oleksandr Baranov, a dedicated family doctor from Nikopol and former Project HOPE team member. Artillery shelling tragically struck Outpatient Clinic №2, claiming his life. Oleksandr was a valued part of our mobile medical unit team, occasionally working as a psychologist to provide crucial support to patients. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Dr. Baranov's family—his wife and his newborn daughter—as they face this irreplaceable loss. "This tragic event highlights the risks health workers face in conflict zones, where they serve on the frontlines to deliver essential care," said Giorgio Trombatore, Regional Director for Eastern Europe. "We stand in solidarity with all health workers dedicated to saving lives under such challenging and dangerous conditions."

On World Diabetes Day, we're celebrating the champions making a difference in the global fight against diabetes - from inspired youth to dedicated health workers to determined patients. Their stories show us how innovative education and support can transform lives. Meet Irene, a 17-year-old changemaker in Mexico City. After losing her grandmother to complications from a non-communicable disease, she joined our Young Health Program to become a health advocate in her community. Today, she's one of 1,050 young leaders across Mexico teaching peers and family members about diabetes prevention, proving that youth can lead the way to a healthier future. In rural China, dedicated health workers are transforming diabetes management through our "5 Steps to Self-Care" program. Using innovative game-based learning, 30 trained health workers have helped over 200 seniors better manage their diabetes. "Their knowledge improved, their mental well-being improved, and their family and friends asked to join the classes," shares Barbara Smith, Project HOPE Senior Program Officer. From Mexico to China, it's the people on the ground - young advocates, health workers, and community members - who are building a world where everyone has the tools to prevent and manage diabetes. https://lnkd.in/gyErr4qe #WorldDiabetesDay

Ukraine's health care system is experiencing severe strain due to the ongoing war and unstable security situation. Additionally, it faces a growing demand for medical staff, especially in frontline regions. Amid the immense challenges – such as the displacement of both patients and health workers – the remaining doctors on the frontlines have shown extraordinary dedication and resilience. In the face of increasingly dire circumstances, these medical professionals continue to provide life-saving care, often under extreme pressure and with limited resources. With support of USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance’s , Project HOPE is incentivizing medical staff by providing financial grants to ensure the continued operation of medical services at frontline facilities. This reinforces frontline health services and ensures that medical care remains accessible and effective.

Health workers show up for us every day – but how do we show up for them? Since COVID-19, burnout and mental health challenges among medical professionals have reached crisis levels. Yet many suffer in silence. We're working to change that because healers need healing too. Through our mental health and resilience training programs, we've reached over 100,000 health workers across 40+ countries, creating safe spaces for nurses, doctors, midwives, and emergency responders to prioritize their own wellbeing. Because taking care of our health workers means taking care of everyone. More on our health work work: https://lnkd.in/gwTyugms
