We received such a generous donation to our reentry closet today, thank you so much! These items are much needed and are given directly to our clients who are recently released from prison. We are always in need of basic items such as clothing, hygiene, etc, and if you are interested in making a donation, we have an Amazon wishlist listed here with our most needed items: https://lnkd.in/g2pCUr_M

Happy Public Defense Day! Also known as Gideon Day. The Supreme Court decision in Gideon v. Wainwright laid the foundation for our nation’s public defense system. The ruling made clear that providing counsel to those facing criminal charges was a “fundamental right, essential to a fair trial” and it affirmed the right to defense counsel for anyone accused of a crime, regardless of wealth. Every day at #PDSDC we practice what Gideon and his lawyers fought for, and we are so honored to be able to bring the constitutional promise of counsel and of a fair trial to the people of the District of Columbia. #PublicDefenderDay #PublicDefenseDay #GideonDay #GideonvWainwright

Project Commutation has been a driving force in the positive strides made in criminal justice reform. Notably, there has been an increase in granted commutations, which reduces the length of incarceration for those with excessive prison sentences. Commutations contribute to a more balanced system and are an effective tool in reducing the prison population without compromising community safety. Unfortunately, recent proposed rule changes by the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board threaten this progress. The changes, if implemented, will deny the possibility of commutation for thousands of currently incarcerated Oklahomans. ? Now is the time to act. Voice your concerns against the rule changes by submitting written comment via the link below or attend the public hearing Jan. 8 at 9 a.m. at the Oklahoma Healthcare Authority Building https://lnkd.in/gcYtByjZ
