We fund research and efforts to improve honey bee health and vitality.

关于我们

Project Apis m.'s mission is to fund research and efforts to improve honey bee health and vitality. Our name comes from Apis mellifera, the scientific name for the honey bee. Project Apis m. (PAm) is the go-to organization at the interface of research, honey bees, and agriculture. Since 2006, we have infused over $10 million into honey bee research and $2.9 million into forage programs, resulting in science-driven resources for bees and beekeepers. We work closely with commercial beekeepers, growers, and scientists in the USA and Canada to identify challenges as they arise. We then fund projects and direct strategic efforts focused on practical questions. PAm offers graduate scholarships to develop the next generation of bee scientists and has expanding efforts to put forage on the landscape where bees need it most. We are a 501(c)5 nonprofit organization governed by a Board of commercial beekeepers and other agricultural stakeholders. A volunteer Science Advisory Committee of well-established honey bee research scientists helps guide our selection of rigorous, applied projects. We are proud to be collaborative, practical, accountable, efficient, and flexible. Learn more about us at www.ProjectApism.org

??? Highlights from the California State Beekeepers Association (CSBA) Conference! ??? We had an incredible time connecting, learning, and celebrating the beekeeping industry at CSBA this year. Here's a glimpse of the week: 1?? George Hansen shared his stunning painting, California Superbloom, generously donated for a raffle fundraiser. The winning ticket became a heartfelt gift for Helen Mussen, wife of the late Eric Mussen, a champion for bee extension. 2?? Project Apis m. was represented by Executive Director Danielle Downey and Seeds for Bees Manager Stetcyn Maldonado, making valuable connections and sharing our mission. 3?? Our PAm board members found time for a little fun, proving that work and play go hand in hand! 4?? What an amazing trade show! The Seeds for Bees booth was surrounded by great company, showcasing the importance of cover crops to pollinators. 5?? Stetcyn Maldonado did a fantastic job representing Seeds for Bees and sharing our Purple Sun Mix—a forage blend designed with beekeepers in mind. ???? 6?? At the research luncheon, Diana Cox-Foster presented her findings on dwindling bee pasture. The takeaway? When resources are scarce, all species feel the impact—a vital reminder of the importance of healthy forage. 7?? Rowdy Freeman, California’s bee theft investigator, shared updates on his growing caseload and the innovative approaches he’s using to combat this issue. 8?? Josette Lewis, Chief Scientific Officer of the Almond Board of California, provided key updates and underscored the critical partnership between beekeepers and almond growers. ???? 9?? Longtime industry voice and author MEA McNeal offered a special reading of her latest novel, Bee Club, and answered questions with CA Master Beekeeper Manager Wendy Mather. A big thank you to everyone who made this conference such a success! Together, we’re moving the needle for honey bee health and the beekeeping industry. ???? #CSBA #BeekeepingCommunity #HoneyBeeHealth #SeedsForBees #ProjectApisM

Meet Rogan Tokach, a 2024-2027 FFAR Fellow! Rogan’s beekeeping journey began in Abilene, Kansas, inspired by a honey bee observation colony at his county fair. Since earning his first hive through a scholarship, he has been dedicated to improving honey bee health and supporting beekeepers. At Auburn University, his research focuses on managing parasitic mites like Varroa destructor and addressing emerging threats like Tropilaelaps mercedesae. Rogan’s goal is to provide sustainable, practical solutions to reduce colony losses, enhance pollination, and strengthen agricultural systems. Rogan is sponsored by Project Apis m., a non-profit advancing research for the beekeeping community. Read More >> https://lnkd.in/g6iCChWy
