关于我们
Project Apis m.'s mission is to fund research and efforts to improve honey bee health and vitality. Our name comes from Apis mellifera, the scientific name for the honey bee. Project Apis m. (PAm) is the go-to organization at the interface of research, honey bees, and agriculture. Since 2006, we have infused over $10 million into honey bee research and $2.9 million into forage programs, resulting in science-driven resources for bees and beekeepers. We work closely with commercial beekeepers, growers, and scientists in the USA and Canada to identify challenges as they arise. We then fund projects and direct strategic efforts focused on practical questions. PAm offers graduate scholarships to develop the next generation of bee scientists and has expanding efforts to put forage on the landscape where bees need it most. We are a 501(c)5 nonprofit organization governed by a Board of commercial beekeepers and other agricultural stakeholders. A volunteer Science Advisory Committee of well-established honey bee research scientists helps guide our selection of rigorous, applied projects. We are proud to be collaborative, practical, accountable, efficient, and flexible. Learn more about us at www.ProjectApism.org

What’s the Future of Honey Bee Health Research? ?? According to Alison (Ally) Martin Ewert, a dedicated bee researcher working on a PAm-funded project, the future of honey bee research is brighter than ever. Scientists are now connecting the dots—understanding how various stressors interact to impact bee health. With a shift toward holistic studies, research is becoming more relevant not just for bees, but for beekeepers, growers, and our entire food system. Inspired by Ally’s vision? Apply for the PAm-Costco Scholarship today! Application information: https://loom.ly/CH61dNw #HoneyBeeHealth #Pollinators #PAmCostcoScholar #BeeResearch

Pollen patties can create ideal conditions for small hive beetle reproduction. The attached image (photo credit: Katie Lee) shows beetle larvae infesting a protein patty. Project Apis m. is funding research at the University of Georgia to mitigate small hive beetle infestations in pollen patties. Dr. Lewis Bartlett presented his findings at ABF 2025, highlighting innovative approaches to managing this persistent pest. Learn more in this short video of his talk from the Georgia Beekeepers Association fall convention in 2022. Link: https://loom.ly/FDXehjU #SmallHiveBeetle #HoneyBeeHealth #BeeResearch #ProjectApisM

Beekeepers are innovative problem solvers, and often find everyday items can be repurposed in their bee work! Hive beetles have been the target of many in-hive trap inventions, and a certain paper towel (Brawny Dine-a-Max) was found to entangle beetles' feet, so beekeepers buy them up! This video shows the effectiveness of beetle towels. #BeekeepingTips #SmallHiveBeetle #HiveManagement #ProjectApisM

Small Hive Beetle Pressure in Colonies Small hive beetles persist as a constant threat to honey bee colonies when conditions allow. In this video, worker bees are seen patrolling and corralling beetles into confined spaces, such as burr comb on the hive lid. If a colony is weak or has excessive space beyond the bees’ ability to patrol, beetle reproduction can lead to a colony 'slime out’ due to infestation. #HoneyBeeHealth #BeekeepingChallenges #SmallHiveBeetle #ProjectApisM
