Democracy is not just about the elections. It is a set of institutions, ideas, and practices that center the power of the people in shaping our lives. On the other side of the elections, how do we ensure that the principles of solidarity and democracy are practiced in everyday actions and decisions? How do we continue to engage communities often forgotten, pushed out, or marginalized by our current democratic system? What tools, resources, and opportunities do we need? Join us on November 14 in unpacking the ongoing work necessary to cultivate a democratic society beyond the ballot box, and centering grassroots organizing and power building locally and nationally. Our BMP colleague Adaku Utah will be moderating the conversation with Rachel Cheek, Organizing Manager at the National Network of Abortion Funds; Mary Hooks, Field Secretary at the Movement for Black Lives, and Margaret Faliano, Associate Director of Advocacy & Engagement at IllumiNative. Fellowship for Liberated Futures is co-hosted by three Black cis women led organizations and entities: ProInspire, The Chisholm Legacy Project: A Resource Hub for Black Frontline Climate Justice Leadership and Chera Reid, PhD. As a collective, we are committed to showing up authentically as stewards. This also requires that we embody the rest practices we encourage Fellows to integrate into their day-to-day lives as climate justice leaders. In this "Rest to Rise" reflective series, each host organization will lean into their senses to express how rest shows up internally. First up is?The Chisholm Legacy Project. Check it out! ? https://lnkd.in/eZ-35f8A

In times that can feel so antithetical to thriving for so many leaders, what are some of the antidotes? During our virtual Thriving Leaders & Communities National Convening, our graphic recorder Rio Holaday helped us surface key themes and conditions for individual thriving, as seen below. These beautiful graphic recordings helped shape our full report a year later. ?? ?? A few of the conditions for individual thriving include freedom to explore, innovate, and choose–beyond simply having access to choices–and centering rest, replenishment, and healing. ?? If you'd like to read more about the other conditions for thriving from nonprofit leaders of color, download our full report: https://lnkd.in/gVV5-gG6 ??
