Dropping computational costs, extraordinary growth in traditional and non-traditional data sets, and constant technological progress are trends revolutionizing the practice and study of modern finance. A theme that runs through the research efforts at the Program for Financial Studies (PFS) is the application of new tools, technologies and data sets to traditional problems in finance and economics.
By leveraging our research initiatives that are at the forefront of the big-data-in-business trend, the PFS seeks to help the Business School produce research, create educational materials and train future business leaders that reflect this revolutionary change in the financial landscape. We organize and host conferences and forums to bring students, faculty members, alumni, and industry representatives together to exchange perspectives on timely topics of interest. The program also engages the community in career, admissions, and orientation events.
Mission:
The Program for Financial Studies (PFS) at Columbia Business School is a partnership between academia and the financial services industry whose goal is to support and promote the Business School’s research in financial economics. Our mandate consists of three parts: (i) to support basic research; (ii) to communicate this research to relevant industry and regulatory institutions; (iii) and to transfer knowledge gained in this research to the broader community.
