An exceptional way to spend the final day of the #WorldClassShipbuilding visit to the ROK. The #TEAMSHIPS delegation, joined by leadership from Joint U.S. Military Affairs Group- Korea (JUSMAG-K) and ROK’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) toured the R&D facilities of two of the largest shipbuilding companies in the world (Hanwha Ocean and HD Hyundai Group Global R&D Center). Both companies have invested significantly in facilities and process modernization and are working on cutting edge shipbuilding technology. At Hanwha Ocean R&D Center we toured the company’s tow tank, cavitation channel and their land base test system and at HD Hyundai Group Global R&D Center the company showcased AI based solutions in ship design, navigation and condition based maintenance. The team ended the week with a visit to DAPA to share insights on what they learned from Korean shipyards, suppliers, R&D centers and discussed next steps on this partnership. Thank you to all those involved in planning and executing this exceptional visit. #MaritimeStatecraft #MaritimeIndustrialBase #WeGoTogether Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA)

RADM Tom Anderson and RADM Bill Greene, with SMEs in ship design and supply chain management, visited DAEYANG ELECTRIC Co., Ltd., a global manufacturer of marine lighting, electronics, and electrical distribution systems, #SunjinEntech, a Master Ship Repair Agreement holder with a history of maintaining US Navy ships and Doosan Enerbility, a provider of integrated solutions in the fields of maritime power transmission and engineering control systems. The trip is a great opportunity for the U.S. and ROK to improve understanding of each other's shipbuilding ecosystems, and explore topics of mutual interest and benefit. The #TEAMSHIPS delegation continues their education on the South Korean #Shipbuilding Ecosystem. Today, they toured Hanwha Aerospace, a company leveraging highly automated production lines to manufacture Gas Turbines for aircrafts and ships and HI AIR KOREA, Korea’s largest manufacturer of HVAC systems for marine applications. The team concluded the day with a visit to ROK’s Naval Shipyard and Navy Logistics Command under the leadership of RADM An. It was a great opportunity to share best practices and strengthen bonds with our #ROK-N partners. With a full crowd in attendance, Lucy Stone (T-AO 209) was christened at General Dynamics NASSCO’s shipyard, Sept. 21. While every US Navy ceremony holds its own significance, this one will undoubtedly be remembered as a standout for the members of the Navy Ship Acquisition Community. Ship sponsors and members of #PEOSHIPS, Alicia Aadnesen and Debbie Simmons are ship introduction specialists who have played the part of “Navy goodwill ambassadors” with distinction for over 20 years, during over 300 ship acquisition related ceremonies. The ship is named for American suffragist Lucy Stone, who joined other notable advocates such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Ernestine Rose, and Antoinette Brown Blackwell to petition for suffrage and abolition in the 19th century. Her efforts as a founder of the Women’s National Loyal League were essential to the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment abolishing slavery. Now imbued with Debbie’s and Alicia’s spirit through the Christening process, the future USNS Lucy Stone (T-AO 209) is destined to serve the Navy and the Nation with distinction. #Chistening #NavalHistory Office of the Secretary of the Navy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations & Environment Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Navy Regional Maintenance Center and Surface Ship Maintenance, Modernization and Sustainment

This T-AO block buy delivers on the US Navy's commitment to get more players on the field while growing near-term capability and capacity. #PEOSHIPS #AcquisitionExcellence
#NAVSEANews Alert! Today the US Navy awarded General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (General Dynamics NASSCO), a contract for a block buy of up to eight John Lewis Class Fleet Replenishment Oilers (T-AOs). Vital to the Navy’s Combat Logistic Force, T-AOs are essential to providing refueling capabilities throughout the Fleet. The first ship from this contract is scheduled to be delivered in 2029. The use of this T-AO “block buy” contract will result in a significant savings compared to the total costs of carrying out the program through separate annual contracts. T-AO program savings of $491 million across six fiscal years are expected. This T-AO block buy delivers on the Department of Navy’s commitment to get more players on the field while growing near-term capability and capacity. In keeping with the Secretary of the Navy’s Maritime Statecraft initiative, this award reflects innovation to build and sustain our maritime dominance and allows for critical investment and sustainment of our shipbuilding industrial base, helping to ensure stability, and jobs for the next decade. The US Navy accepted delivery of future USS Robert E. Simanek (ESB 7), Sept. 12. ESBs act as a mobile sea base and they are a part of the critical access infrastructure that supports the deployment of forces and supplies to provide prepositioned equipment and sustainment with adaptable distribution capability. The ships also support Aviation Mine Countermeasure and Special Operations Force missions. In addition to the flight deck, the ESB has a hangar with two aviation operating spots capable of handling MH-53E equivalent helicopters, accommodations, workspaces, and ordnance storage for embarked force, enhanced command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I). They also support embarked force mission planning and execution and have a reconfigurable mission deck area to store embarked force equipment, including mine sleds and Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats. Congratulations to the #PEOSHIPS team from our Strategic and Theater Sealift program office, are partners at Military Sealift Command and our industry partners, General Dynamics NASSCO (who hosted the signing ceremony) and all who have gotten the ship to this point and will continue to support it. We are looking forward to the next steps in the ship’s lifecycle! #ForceBehindTheFleet #NAVSEA Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition

When another player gets on the field, it is a #GreatNavyDay! USS Richard M. McCool, Jr. (LPD29) was commissioned by the US Navy in Pensacola on Sept. 7. LPD 29 honors U.S. Navy Capt. Richard M. McCool, Jr., Ret. who received the Medal of Honor in 1945 for the heroism he displayed after his ship, USS LSC 122, was attacked by kamikaze aircraft in the Battle of Okinawa. Despite suffering from shrapnel wounds and painful burns, he led efforts to battle a blazing fire on his ship and rescue injured Sailors. The #PEOSHIPS Amphibious Warfare program team, #SUPSHIP Gulf Coast and industry partner, Ingalls Shipbuilding, a Division of HII have much to be proud of. Their hard work and dedication to mission resulted in another world class amphib on the playing field.
