RADM Anderson’s Pittsburgh Executive Engagement Visit in support of #NavyOutreach concluded on a high note as he had the opportunity to thank U.S. Navy suppliers in the area for the work they do to get and keep more players on the field. A strong maritime industrial base is key to building the surface ships the fleet needs to operate forward and protect our way of life. Thank you to Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) and MSA - The Safety Company for the opportunity to visit. It was energizing hearing directly from the employees who make the products for our ships. Yesterday was an awesome day to introduce the new Medium Landing Ship (LSM) program office to PEO Ships and welcome Col. Ray Feltham to the team as he takes charge of the program. Rear Adm. Tom Anderson presided over the new program office stand up ceremony, where he discussed the importance of this new program office to realizing a new amphibious ship class for the fleet. Brig. Gen. Robert Brodie, Director of Expeditionary Warfare was the guest speaker and talked about the importance of #LSM as a game-changing capability for naval operations in the 21st century. #BravoZulu to the team for taking on this challenge to deliver the United States Marine Corps the ships it needs. Tuesday was #NavyDay in the City of Pittsburgh! Day two of RADM Tom Anderson’s Pittsburgh Executive Engagement Visit in support of #NavyOutreach started with a proclamation recognizing today as Navy Day by the Pittsburgh City Council. RADM Anderson had the opportunity to speak before the council and thank the City of Pittsburgh for all they have done and continue to do to support the world’s greatest Navy. Thank you also to Pittsburgh City Controller Rachael Heisler for her engagement at City Hall. It was also great to be joined by Rep. Chris Deluzio to celebrate Navy Day in the city. The day was also filled with many opportunities to meet with students of all ages to help them learn about the Navy and all the ways someone can serve their country. The students also learned about the future #USSPittsburgh and received photos depicting the ship. Thank you to STEM Coding Lab, YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh and Café Momentum Pittsburgh for being awesome! Today was an awesome start to RADM Tom Anderson's Executive Engagement Visit to Pittsburgh, the #SteelCity in support of #NavyOutreach. It was a day spent with civic leaders, students, educators, key innovators and members of the industrial base. RADM Anderson had the opportunity to thank the many US Navy supporters in the Pittsburgh region, discuss the extensive opportunities to support the Navy in and out of uniform and to talk about the city's fifth namesake ship, the future USS Pittsburgh (LPD 31). It will be a highly-capable amphibious transport dock ship honoring an amazing city! It isn’t a trip to Pittsburgh without a lunch stop at the famous Kellie O's Diner in the Strip District! TEAM Ships celebrated the transfer of custody of USS FORT LAUDERDALE (LPD 28) from the Amphibious Warfare Program Office to the Unmanned Small Combatants and Amphibious Ships Program Office. The Honorable Meredith Berger, Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations, and Environment, was the guest speaker. Secretary Berger is also the proud sponsor of USS Fort Lauderdale. This ceremony marks a pivotal moment in the ship’s journey and acknowledges the hard work of the new construction team and their partners in delivering this San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship. As the sustainment and modernization team takes the lead, we look forward to supporting and sustaining LPD 28 as it embarks on critical expeditionary warfare missions. #Together – We Fight! Signing Day! Today, members of PEO Ships paused to celebrate some recent wins and acknowledge those who have contributed to put #MorePlayersOnTheField for the US Navy and our Nation. We gathered for a quick, casual ceremony to honor those who have worked to achieve award of the T-AO Class 8 Ship Block Buy contract, award of the Amphib multi-ship procurement (3 LPDs and LHA 10), and the recent deliveries of USNS Robert E. An exceptional way to spend the final day of the #WorldClassShipbuilding visit to the ROK. The #TEAMSHIPS delegation, joined by leadership from Joint U.S. Military Affairs Group- Korea (JUSMAG-K) and ROK’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) toured the R&D facilities of two of the largest shipbuilding companies in the world (Hanwha Ocean and HD Hyundai Group Global R&D Center). Both companies have invested significantly in facilities and process modernization and are working on cutting edge shipbuilding technology. At Hanwha Ocean R&D Center we toured the company’s tow tank, cavitation channel and their land base test system and at HD Hyundai Group Global R&D Center the company showcased AI based solutions in ship design, navigation and condition based maintenance. The team ended the week with a visit to DAPA to share insights on what they learned from Korean shipyards, suppliers, R&D centers and discussed next steps on this partnership. RADM Tom Anderson and RADM Bill Greene, with SMEs in ship design and supply chain management, visited DAEYANG ELECTRIC Co., Ltd., a global manufacturer of marine lighting, electronics, and electrical distribution systems, #SunjinEntech, a Master Ship Repair Agreement holder with a history of maintaining US Navy ships and Doosan Enerbility, a provider of integrated solutions in the fields of maritime power transmission and engineering control systems. The trip is a great opportunity for the U.S. and ROK to improve understanding of each other's shipbuilding ecosystems, and explore topics of mutual interest and benefit. The #TEAMSHIPS delegation continues their education on the South Korean #Shipbuilding Ecosystem. Today, they toured Hanwha Aerospace, a company leveraging highly automated production lines to manufacture Gas Turbines for aircrafts and ships and HI AIR KOREA, Korea’s largest manufacturer of HVAC systems for marine applications. The team concluded the day with a visit to ROK’s Naval Shipyard and Navy Logistics Command under the leadership of RADM An. It was a great opportunity to share best practices and strengthen bonds with our #ROK-N partners.
