Whether we like it or not, video interviews are here to stay. So, you need to be prepared if the opportunity presents itself. Here are a couple of quick tips to help you get through it: ?? Invest in the proper technology and apps. * Ask the employer which application they use so you can download it ahead of time. Make sure your computer is fast enough to handle it. ?? Test the app prior to the interview. * Make sure the camera works, and there are no transmission issues. ?? Practice, Practice, Practice. *Call a friend or family member to look for camera angle, lighting, or communication lag time. ?? Eliminate distractions. *Remove the ticking clock, barking dog, loud TV, etc. Keep it quiet. Dress as though you are going to an in person interview, which will give you more confidence. How can you deepen your relationships on LinkedIn in just ten minutes? Last week, an executive client of ours said to me, "Yeah, I really don't use LinkedIn for anything more than to accept connection requests from colleagues. I don't have hours to network to try and build relationships. How far will that get me anyway?" ?? Here, hold my coffee. ? Networking?and cultivating your relationships on LinkedIn doesn't have to be time-consuming. Spending 10-15 minutes per day, or every other day, will not only grow your network but will also help your profile be more searchable to recruiters and hiring managers. Whew! What a week! I've never needed a Friday more than I do today. I know that when I was job searching, by Friday, I was just mentally exhausted. ???? Sometimes it can take months before you find your next role. Whether you voluntarily left your role or were let go, it is still an adjustment that takes getting used to. How can you stay positive and upbeat when job searching? Staying positive doesn't have to come from just landing a job. While you are waiting to hear back, there are other things you can do to keep your spirits up: ? ?????????????????? ??????????????. There is always a soup kitchen, library, church, or animal shelter looking for volunteers. You want an immediate pick-me-up? VOLUNTEER. ? ???? ????????. Have a cart full of items, and the person behind you has three things? Let them go first. That kindness won't be forgotten--and you end up feeling happy as well. ? ??????????. Did you know smiles actually increase our "happy hormones" or endorphins? Smiling makes your brain happy. Do more of that. ? ?????? ????????????. Spend a few hours every day searching for jobs networking. You'll feel more productive and won't feel guilty doing other things. ? ??????????. Have a closet that could use some attention? Now is the time! Keep your home tidy, too. Believe it or not, cleaning also releases endorphins (and burns calories--bonus!). Then donate what you don't use to an org that can use it. ? ???????????? & ??????????????. Spend time with family and friends. Feeling support from those you love helps you stay focused and encouraged. ?? ? ????????. Spend time with elderly neighbors or aging parents. Help out in your kids' classrooms. You'll be grateful you had this time to give them. //// ?? I remember exactly where I was when the idea started to form. ? It was a Sunday afternoon in July twenty-three years ago. My husband and I were on the highway driving home from a weekend away. I was talking to him about my job as a career counselor. I had built a name for myself as a resume writer in our agency. It was a state-funded career center so all the services were free. ?????????????????? ???????????? ??????????????. It wasn't until a client came in after I had written his resume, and said my "free" resume was so much better than his "paid" resume, that I realized what I should do as my job. An idea was born. ?? And on that long stretch of highway, as my heart started to pound, and my head swirled with ideas, I made my business plan. ?? How can you guarantee your rank in a LinkedIn search? You can't! The ranking of your profile is dependent on the relevancy to the searcher. The variables that determine your ranking include the searcher's profile and attributes, and the filters that the searcher/hiring manager/recruiter applies. When my client, Joanne, spoke to me a few days before her interview. She was READY. She had been in this type of role for 30 years. She'd been instrumental in growing two companies. Had helped one of them take the company to billion-dollar status. She was excited about the role. Knew she had it in the bag. She never made it past the second interview. Do you ever feel like you are running in circles, or just running yourself ragged (like Nelson here???)? Job search on its own can be exhausting. Job search while unemployed can feel unbearable. It's a whole different kind of #stress.?? While some things are out of our control, we CAN control how we respond to it. ?? ???????????? ?? ???????????????? ????????????????. Get up early. Take a walk, exercise, or stretch. Eat meals regularly. Drink lots of water. * Meditate, do yoga, or sit quietly for a few minutes. ?? ?????????? ???????????????? ?????? ??????????. When you don't have to be online, get off the internet. Get out of that rabbit hole. Put down the project you are working on for an hour or so. * There will always be more work to do. Finish it tomorrow. ?? ?????????? ??????. Connect with friends and family. Talking with people you love will lift your spirits and give you more #energy. * It also releases oxytocin, the feel-good hormone. We all need more of that. ?? ???????? ???????? ??????. Even if you weren't able to take a vacation, take a few days off. Go on a road trip. Bring your favorite furry friend with you.?? * Being away from work responsibilities reenergizes and reduces stress.
