Proud to serve on the External Advisory Board for the Engineering Innovation in Health (EIH) program at the University of Washington since 2020. Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending their fall midterm presentations at Fluke Hall, where student teams showcased their innovative healthcare solutions. One standout presentation was the NeoNourish project, addressing breastfeeding accessibility and efficiency in Ethiopia - a perfect example of how EIH combines engineering excellence with global health impact. The interdisciplinary team of Melanie Bakin, Maelynn Danke, Jaelynn Hunt-Osburn, Sydney Pang, and Dr. Krystle Perez brought together mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and neonatology expertise to tackle this crucial challenge. It's inspiring to see the next generation of innovators applying human-centered design principles to solve pressing healthcare challenges. The EIH program's commitment to bridging engineering and healthcare continues to produce meaningful solutions that can make a real difference in people's lives.
