A great article by Vikas Nandwana about produced water's untapped potential. The Permian Basin alone generates nearly 30 million barrels daily as a byproduct of oil extraction! Instead of deep well injection, New Mexico researchers are developing cost-effective treatment methods to transform this "waste" into valuable water for agriculture and industry. Treatment costs are approaching disposal costs at $1 per barrel. This shift could reduce seismic risks while creating a new water source for water-scarce regions. Imagine if the oil and gas industry could provide both energy and water, helping preserve our freshwater reserves. What do you think about the future of produced water reuse? I had the privilege of moderating the Produced Water Management Panel yesterday, at the Nigerian International Energy Summit (NIES) 2025. The session opened with a keynote by Steve Coffee, highlighting the global impact of the Produced Water Society. Our panel explored regulatory reforms, R&D, investments, and technological innovations to unlock the potential of produced water valorization in Africa’s energy landscape. Following the panel, Dr. Rajendra Ghimire shared insights with Nigerian Television Authority on circular economy initiatives for produced water, reinforcing the importance of sustainable water management. Kudos to Brevity Anderson and Produced Water Society for an outstanding collabo! #NIES2025 #ProducedWater #CircularEconomy #EnergyInnovation #Collaboration Produced Water Society Brevity Anderson Nigeria International Energy Summit James Shindi Steve Coffee Rajendra Ghimire Ben Samuels Jeremiah Peter
