关于我们
PROBLUE is a Multi-Donor Trust Fund, housed at the World Bank, that supports the development of integrated, sustainable, and healthy marine and coastal resources. PROBLUE contributes to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14) and is fully aligned with the World Bank’s vision to create a world free of poverty on a livable planet. PROBLUE supports the World Bank’s overall ocean portfolio and focuses on four key areas: 1. The management of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture 2. Addressing threats posed to ocean health by marine pollution, including litter and plastics, from marine or land-based sources 3. The sustainable development of key oceanic sectors such as tourism, maritime transport and off-shore renewable energy 4. Building government capacity to manage marine resources, including nature-based infrastructure such as mangroves, in an integrated way to deliver more and long-lasting benefits to countries and communities Cross-cutting issues such as poverty; livelihoods; social inclusion, including gender; climate change; and maximizing finance for development are interwoven throughout the program.

"Blue foods—fish, shellfish, and aquatic plants—are vital for global food security, providing essential nutrition and livelihoods for billions. These aquatic resources supply over 3.3 billion people with at least 20% of their animal protein intake, making them especially crucial for vulnerable populations in coastal and developing regions," said Harrison Karisa, Senior Fisheries Specialist and Aquaculture expert, World Bank speaking at The World Bank-FAO Special Day event at the World Aquaculture Society African Chapter conference in Tunisia earlier this week. #BlueFood #FoodSecurity #AFRAQ24 #Tunisia

Today for #WorldFisheriesDay and ocean and coastal zones theme day at #COP29, we're highlighting how social protection interventions can support more sustainable and productive fisheries that nourish people and planet.? ? Government efforts to manage fisheries are often limited by short-term policy visions and single-sector approaches, leaving communities who depend on small-scale fisheries to shoulder much of the cost of transition to sustainability. Social protection and labour market interventions have untapped potential to facilitate fisheries policy reforms and support more effective implementation of management measures, while supporting fishers and fish workers to manage risks.? ? Case studies conducted by The World Bank and partners document emerging efforts towards more coordinated and integrated approaches to fisheries and social protection in five countries – Costa Rica, Kenya, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, and Viet Nam. With different motivations, scope of work, and capacities in each sector, they illustrate a range of approaches and methods available for advancing this agenda. The main messages from the case studies are:? ? Specific risks to the fisheries sector and different groups within it need to be understood.? ? Despite knowledge gaps, existing data can be used to start dialogue and initiate change.? ? Existing social protection systems, policies, and programmes are a good place to start.? ? Financial resources are inadequate, but harmful fisheries subsidies can be repurposed. Read the full case studies in the comments. ? #fisheries #CoastalZones #SocialProtection #subsidies
