The Probation Officers Professional Association of Indiana, Inc. was established in 1985 by a group of Chief Probation Officers from throughout Indiana who were concerned about soaring caseloads, low pay, and dangerously high probation officer turnover in the State of Indiana. Our membership is comprised of individuals involved in all areas of probation services: administrators, line probation officers, supervisory staff, community corrections/probation officers, detention/probation personnel, and support staff. In addition to those active members, our extended memberships include retired probation officers, support staff, and those individuals who have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to the field of probation.

A Criminal Justice Career is not for everyone, but all over Indiana we're seeing committed professionals embracing proven principles that bring REAL life changes. What aspect of Annie Stocksdale's list surprises you most?
??What I wish I would’ve known before starting a career in criminal justice: ?? Most clients cannot be scared into compliance. The ones that can are probably not going to create lasting changes in their lives. ?? This field is actually highly competitive. I had to apply for the same position 4x before I was hired! ?? Teamwork really does make the dream work. Building positive relationships within your department makes for smooth sailing ?? ?? Speaking of relationships— the easiest way to get clients into compliance is to create a genuine connection and position yourself as an ally that wants to see them succeed. But don’t be afraid to lay down the hammer. ?? ?? Each court has a different way that they do things. Take time to learn how each judge operates to make your life easier. ?? Find an officer that you really admire, ask them a ton of questions, and use their supervision style as a template to develop your own. ?What would you add to this list?
Couldn't have said it better ourselves. ?? Pretrial Supervision is making big impact all over Indiana!
Assistant Director Community Corrections | Certified Probation Officer | Certified Pretrial Services Professional | Leading Innovation in Community Supervision
??? Spotlight on Indiana Pretrial Supervision ??? Indiana’s pretrial supervision program is dedicated to enhancing public safety while upholding the rights of individuals awaiting trial. This innovative program provides structured support and oversight to defendants, ensuring they comply with court-ordered conditions and appear for their scheduled court dates. Key Features of Indiana Pretrial Supervision: ?? Risk Assessment: Each individual undergoes a thorough risk assessment to determine the appropriate level of supervision. ?? Tailored Supervision Plans: Based on the risk assessment, personalized supervision plans are developed to meet the unique needs of each defendant. ?? Regular Check-Ins: Defendants may required to check in regularly with pretrial officers to monitor compliance and address any concerns promptly. ?? Drug Testing: Defendants may be required to participate in drug testing to ensure accountability and helps identify those in need of substance abuse treatment. ?? Court Reminders: Automated reminders and notifications help defendants stay informed about their court dates and other important obligations. ??? Support Services: Access to various support services, including counseling, job training, and mental health resources, to aid defendants in addressing underlying issues and reducing the likelihood of reoffending. Indiana’s pretrial supervision program balances the need for public safety with the principle of presumed innocence, providing a fair and effective alternative to pretrial detention. By focusing on individualized support and accountability, we strive to improve outcomes for defendants and the broader community. #PretrialSupervision #IndianaJustice #CriminalJusticeReform #CommunitySafety #SupportAndRehabilitation
