People often mistake 'Proof of Personhood' for Digital ID. But that's a mistake. Why? Because there are lots of places I need to prove I’m a human?without needing to prove who I am. And worse: “Existing proof of personhood solutions come with serious privacy concerns, accessibility barriers, and decentralization risks." Exactly. It's a quote from the latest Proof Of Personhood (PoP) network called 'Billions'. Powered by the tech behind Privado ID (Formerly Polygon ID). Link in the comments. “Unlike existing proof of personhood solutions, Billions extends its solution to both humans and AI agents. “While human users can prove their humanity through Billions, AI systems can verify the authenticity of their training models, actions, and data sources. This multifaceted approach to verification lays the foundation for an internet of value where reputation and trust are embedded across every interaction.” You see, 'Proof Of Personhood' is a thorny problem. And there are only a couple of ways to do it at scale: 1. Based on a Social Graph?(people vouch for each other) 2. Based on General hardware and a biometric?(use existing tech and e.g. face or palm) 3. Based on Specialized hardware?and a biometric (use new, tailored tech and e.g. face or iris) As Billions points out, the main challenge is doing PoP without breaking?privacy,?accessibility?or?security. Vitalik Buterin ranked these approaches a couple of years ago. See the image below, with red/amber/green ratings. The main pitch from Billions is that they can address the main ‘Low’ items in the table (the red cells). Including ‘Security against “fake people” (i.e. bots)'. With the coming explosion of AI agents, we are going to need Proof Of Personhood (PoP) - and specifically Proof Of Personhood Credentials (PHCs) - and fast. In fact, According to a report by BSG published in 2023- 1??13% of Web3 founding teams include at least one woman, and? 2??Only? 3% of founding teams are composed entirely of women.? 3??All-male teams raise nearly four times more capital than their all-female teams But even though women make up only a small part of this Web3 workforce, there are some incredible women making headwinds in this domain and are an inspiration to me personally. ?So, I’d like to give them a shoutout through this post- 1?? Announcing the Applied ZK Bootcamp starting March 13, aka Circom Bootcamp. This new bootcamp teaches you how to design non-trivial ZK circuits. You'll learn fundamental design patterns that you will compose to create a ZKVM from scratch as well as create ZK proofs for traditional cryptographic hash functions. We also cover how to create POCs for hacking underconstrained circuits. You'll go far beyond the typical trivial examples of proving you have a Sudoku solution or proving you know the evaluation of a polynomial. We use Circom as the language of instruction since there is a lot of existing production code to learn from. However, what we teach generalizes to other constraint-based ZK DSLs like Gnark, o1js, and Halo2. How does this differ from our existing ZK Bootcamp? The first ZK Bootcamp teaches the math behind ZK: given an arithmetic circuit, how do we create a ZK-SNARK for it? This new bootcamp teaches how to design the arithmetic circuits for complex applications. Course details and application in the next link. Having taken the other ZK Bootcamp is not a requirement. There 2 lectures per week, an an expected 6 hours per week of coursework.
