Context: At PRISM we have warned for a year that tariffs are the largest supply chain risk of 2025, they are now here ?? Why does it matter: The impact will be massive, especially for tariffs on Canada and Mexico that has thus far been tariff free ?? But wait: Mexico and Canada just announced a 30-day pause to give time for negotiations. With luck, tariffs are just a negotiation tactic that will never come to pass. If not, prepare for cost increases across the board ?? Do now: Monitor the situation very carefully and also explore all trade relations with the United States. However, regional instability is up significantly as foreign powers fight over the spoils. ???? South Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol survived an impeachment vote after declaring martial law. Why does it matter? Unions have threatened a general strike to force Yoon from office. Korea is one of the most important countries for global supply chains in automotive and electronics, and strikes can cause large disruptions in flows. ???? Ukraine Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US president-elect Donald Trump. Why does it matter? All eyes are on the Trump administration’s approach to the war and if they will freeze aid and force a settlement to the conflict.
