At 45, Alonda Gray is embracing life again after receiving a kidney transplant. Diagnosed with diabetes at 17, she experienced years of uncontrolled blood sugar leading to kidney failure and the devastating news that she needed dialysis. Determined to see her kids grow up, she explored transplantation – only to face another hurdle: her rare B-positive blood type, which could mean a wait of 5–8 years. But in a stroke of luck, a matching living donor came through much sooner than expected! Now, with a new kidney, Alonda is back to exercising, getting out and truly enjoying life. For her, March’s #NationalKidneyAwarenessMonth is an everyday celebration. Watch her inspiring journey: https://bit.ly/3Fguawh

Patewood and Richland hospitals have earned recognition as the Best Hospitals for Maternity Care 2025 in America by Money Magazine – the only South Carolina hospitals to do so. And Hillcrest Hospital earned a spot on Money’s Best list for Bariatric Surgery. For maternity care, each hospital was graded on three core categories: hospital quality, maternity focus and maternity-specific accreditations. “This recognition highlights the exceptional work of our team in providing high-quality, compassionate care to our expectant mothers and their families,” said Berry Campbell, MD, Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Midlands. “We are proud to be acknowledged for our commitment to the health and well-being of mothers and babies, and we will continue to strive for excellence in every aspect of maternity care.” In the field of bariatric care, the top hospitals excelled in offering safe, effective weight-loss procedures led by skilled bariatric surgeons and specialists. John Scott, MD, Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program and Chief of the Minimal Access and Bariatric Surgery division at Prisma Health, said, “This is a reflection of the teamwork that is the hallmark of everything we do at Hillcrest Hospital. All our team members are dedicated to the pursuit of safety and great patient care and continuous advances in the quality of all surgeries at Hillcrest.” #PrismaHealthProud
