Prism Plastics, Inc. was excited to have the Manufacturing Academy students from several Crawford County schools visit and tour our Meadville PA facility.
Partnering with the Crawford County K-12 Career Education Alliance and the Northwest PA NTMA chapter Prism hosted 25, 11th and 12th grade students along with their academic advisors. Our tour focused on the soft skills required for careers available in manufacturing for students seeking co-op opportunities, tooling and plastics processing apprenticeships and directly entering the workforce after high school.

Schools recruit and select participating students based on “Profile of a Successful Student” that the NTMA and Crawford County K-12 Caree Education Alliance put together including the follow characteristics.
? Excelled in elementary school when learning was more hands on
? Tactile learner
? Likes to take things apart and put them back together
? Wants to understand how mechanical things work
? Enjoys Legos, puzzles, and other STEM related ac??vi??es
? Captivated by games that are strategic in nature such as Minecraft or Tetris

? Requests and appreciates clear instructions
? Likes clearly defined expectations
? Prefers to work independently
? Missed the opportunity to attend or chose not to attend Crawford Tech

Several current employees gave testimony of their career path with Prism that started during or right out of high school and where they are now as well as the many benefits of working in manufacturing such as on the job training, our apprenticeship program timeline, and our education reimbursement benefits. Students were encouraged to reach out in the coming months to return for a job shadow, or to discuss more in depth the apprenticeship and co-op opportunities.
