The 2020 U.S. Census Bureau reported a surprising uptick in the number of people who are multiracial in America: The percentage jumped from 3.4 percent the year before to 10.2 percent. That boom was just a “statistical illusion,” according to new research from Paul Starr and Christina Pao. https://lnkd.in/eChi7yhF

Last Fall, I had the privilege of leading a Policy Workshop at Princeton's School of Public and International Affairs. ?My class consisted of 10 fabulously talented Master in Public Affairs students, and we spent the semester looking at how the United States can better cooperate with allies and partners to maintain a strategic advantage over China with respect to emerging technologies. On Friday, my students published their final report: "Expanding the PIE: Building a 'Plurilateral ?Innovation Ecosystem' for Critical and Emerging Technologies." ?Their recommendations center on how the United States can do more to coordinate with international partners on positive efforts to promote innovation, in addition to coordinating restrictive measures, like export controls. Right now is a daunting time to be job hunting in the public policy space. ?If any of my contacts out there are looking to hire bright, super collegial and strategic problem-solvers, I've got some fantastic people I can connect you with. ? Special thanks to Dean Karen McGuinness for the opportunity to work with the group, which included Michael Chapman, Ji Eun Kim, Jeremy McKey, Nathan McQuarrie, Uma Mengale, and Lauren (Dudley) Piper. https://lnkd.in/dGxP3iZf

Almost 7 in 10 Jewish adults have reported experiencing antisemitic rhetoric online or on social media. And a report by the American Jewish Committee has found that 90% of American Jews have seen a rise in antisemitism since October 7. That is why we were so grateful to have H.E. Deborah Lipstadt, former U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, U.S. Department of State, and Mark Oppenheimer,?renowned journalist and author, on campus yesterday to share effective strategies for countering hate, strengthening communities, and shaping policies to address this urgent challenge. In the three decades he spent as the director of Human Rights Watch, Kenneth Roth has guided the organization “to increase the price of oppression, to shift a government’s cost-benefit calculation so that abuse no longer seems as desirable,” he says. In his new book, “Righting Wrongs: Three Decades on the Front Lines Battling Abusive Governments” (Knopf), Roth “pulls back the curtain to show the strategies that we used, both what worked and what did not.” https://lnkd.in/eJzHdh_4
