For our next read, we’re shifting gears and tackling Isabel Allende’s The House of the Spirits—a sweeping, magical realist novel full of family drama, love, and political history in Chile. PiLA Alumni Spotlight: Danielle Coony ('16-'18) We are proud to highlight Danielle Coony, a Princeton in Latin America (PiLA) Fellow from 2016-2018 at The DREAM Project in the Dominican Republic, whose career has been dedicated to advocacy and justice for marginalized communities. Following her fellowship, Dani pursued her J.D. in law and now serves as a Staff Attorney at California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc., where she represents migrant farmworkers—workers in an industry disproportionately affected by employment discrimination, wage theft, labor trafficking, and housing abuses. In her role, she and her team help clients evaluate, negotiate, and litigate legal claims while also engaging in outreach and community-building efforts with local agencies to support and empower farmworkers. “Beyond legal proceedings, my team and I actively engage in outreach efforts with local agencies, striving to build a supportive state and local infrastructure that acknowledges our clients’ experiences.” Dani’s journey is a testament to the impact of international fellowships, cross-cultural exchange, and service-driven leadership. We are inspired by her work and commitment to social justice and advocacy. Join us in celebrating Dani’s incredible contributions! #PrincetoninLatinAmerica #PiLA #PiLAFellowshipProgram #PiLAAlumni #AlumniSpotlight #LegalAdvocacy #MigrantWorkersRights #SocialJustice #InternationalFellowship #GlobalImpact #HumanRights #LegalEmpowerment #CrossCulturalExchange #FellowshipToCareer
