Afterschool benefits kids for life! A longitudinal study by Dr. Deborah Vandell follows a large sample of young people over 26 years to understand how various environments—including families, early education, schools, neighborhoods, and afterschool programs—affect educational, health, and career outcomes. The findings are clear: kids who participate in afterschool are stronger learners, earners, and leaders! This February, kids from Lantana Elementary 21st Century afterschool program had a blast with the Read! Lead! Succeed! program. They explored the powerful message of self-love, reading stories about embracing who they are, and then they got creative by crafting their own framed mirrors and puzzles as meaningful keepsakes. Stories and STEM is buzzing into spring with Curious George and happy honeybees. Students enjoyed learning all about bees and reading "Curious George, A Home For Honeybees" by H.A. Rey. Students became busy bees, engaging in their engineering project, constructing bee buzzers and learning about sound waves. This was a difficult task but "Bee-hind" every great accomplishment is a supportive hive. ???????? Exhibiting employers and organizations include Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County, City of Greenacres, Lutheran Services Florida, Prime Time Palm Beach County, The City of West Palm Beach, The Arc of Palm Beach County and more. “Child care and the education of young children are fulfilling and in-demand fields that more people need to discover,” said Ruth Floreal, Ed.D., director of Early Childhood and K-12 Education programs at PBSC. “Even if someone hasn’t worked in these fields before, we encourage them to come and learn more. They may have highly transferable skills that are well suited to a rewarding career in education.”

What an honor it was to present at National AfterSchool Association (NAA) #NAA25 this year. Prime Time hosted two workshops: The "New Normal" Afterschool and "Ready for Prime Time?" that were fully attended. The "New Normal" Afterschool called for afterschool programs to become more resilience-focused, trauma-informed and attachment-aware. Charles Smith and Stefania Giannella, Ph.D. focused on strengths-based strategies like emotional containment, warmth, attunement and other resilience-building practices that promote healing and well-being for both staff and children. Attendees explored how staff can protect themselves from exhaustion and secondary traumatic stress through supportive practices that help create a warm, responsive and emotionally aware environments. "Ready for Prime Time?" presented by Charles Smith, Lisa Gregoire and Suzette Harvey shared how Prime Time Palm Beach County has led the afterschool field as a model for continuous quality improvement for more than two decades. Attendees explored how Prime Time “recognizes, encourages and unlocks” professional pathways for out-of-school time (OST) staff across two counties, showcasing measurable successes in improving staff skills, tenure and career advancement. Participants received an insider look at how Prime Time offers professional recognition, strengths-based coaching, credentialing tracks to college degrees and capacity-building. Each attendee left with practical knowledge to support or advocate for their own program.
