Key Responsibilities:
Claim Preparation & Submission:
Accurately input patient information, diagnoses, procedures, and billing codes into billing software.
Submit insurance claims electronically or manually as required.
Verify claim status and ensure timely submission to meet insurance deadlines.
Insurance Verification & Communication:
Confirm patient insurance coverage and eligibility prior to claims submission.
Communicate with insurance companies to resolve claim disputes, denials, or discrepancies.
Payment Processing:
Post payments to patient accounts and ensure correct application of payments.
Reconcile daily, weekly, and monthly financial records.
Compliance & Accuracy:
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and other legal standards.
Stay updated on changes to CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes as well as payer policies.
Address patient inquiries about billing statements, insurance coverage, and payment options.
Reporting
Excellent email writing & communication skills
Generate reports on accounts receivable, claims status, and billing performance.
Identify and address trends in claim denials or payment delays.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree or equivalent
Minimum 1-2 years of medical billing experience, preferably in a healthcare or medical office setting.
Skills & Competencies:
Proficiency in medical billing software (Aprima, Tebra, AdvancedMD, eCW or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes, as well as insurance claim procedures.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
