?? Excited to share our latest publication on the nutritional properties of raw frozen and freeze-dried for dogs! ?? The pet food market has seen a significant rise in the popularity of commercial raw or minimally processed diets, particularly freeze-dried options. In this study, we aimed to shed light on the nutritional aspects of these diets, with a focus on freeze-dried formats. ?? Our experiment compared the standardized amino acid (AA) digestibilities and nitrogen-corrected true metabolizable energy (TMEn) of raw frozen and freeze-dried dog foods. Three formats provided by Primal Pet Group were analyzed: traditional freeze-dried nuggets (T-FDN), hybrid freeze-dried nuggets (H-FDN), and frozen nuggets (FZN). ?? To gather precise data, we conducted assays using cecectomized and conventional roosters. Results showed no significant differences in standardized AA digestibilities among diets, with high digestibilities observed across the board. Notably, histidine and lysine exhibited slightly lower digestibilities. ?? Assessing heat damage, the reactive lysine:total lysine ratio ranged from 0.91 to 0.95, indicating minimal impact. TMEn values were also revealing, with T-FDN and FZN exhibiting higher values compared to H-FDN, aligning closely with Atwater factors. This study provides valuable insights into the nutritional profile of raw pet diets, offering a comprehensive perspective on both freeze-dried and frozen formats.
