A lesson from Trista's “40 Lessons I Learned by the Time I Turned 40” Assume the best out of people, not the worst. I’ve found that most people don't harbor bad intentions. Life becomes much easier and more joyful when you stop suspecting that others are “out to get you.” Of course, it’s not to say that bad people don’t exist, but generally, assuming the best about people leads to a happier existence and less negativity. For instance, if someone cuts you off in traffic, instead of thinking they’re just an A-hole, consider that they might be rushing to an emergency or simply didn’t see you. Give them the benefit of the doubt. Or, if someone says something that hurts your feelings, assume it wasn’t intentional. They might be regretting their words just as you are obsessing over them. Test this out, I promise you’ll be happier.
