Cool Boat – Unique Business Opportunity Last weekend, I had the opportunity to get up close to a 40 ft SWATH, or Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull, when it was on the hard for maintenance. Amazing to see how much of the boat is "below the surface”. This boat offers a unique set of advantages over conventional catamarans. SWATH technology offers a stable and comfortable platform for conducting sensitive surveys in rough seas. The design of the vessel allows it to remain stable in choppy waters, reducing the need for stabilization equipment and ensuring accurate data collection. Additionally, the SWATH's shallow draft enables it to operate in shallow waters, making it ideal for surveys in coastal regions. Originally commissioned as a US NAVY vessel for mine sweeping, there only 3 of these specific boats in existence. Kudo’s to my friend and boat Captain David Nielsen, P.E. who owns Pricus Marine. His vision to build this type of business has yielded an impressive list of clients. One of the coolest assignments was his work featured on the Discovery Channel series “The Bermuda Triangle, Into Cursed Waters” Season 2 Episode 2. The company is uniquely positioned as a service provider to the operators of offshore wind farms and other underwater geological survey projects along the east coast. #entrepreneur #blueocean #offshorewind #geologicalsurvey

Hydrographic and Geophysical Survey Support. Collect beautiful data. Don’t worry, we’ll help you look good! ??
关于我们
PRICUS MARINE provides purpose built vessels, operators and logistics solutions for hydrographic and geophysical surveys, research, and commercial interests operating in near shore and open-ocean environments. The SWATH hull-form is an enabling technology that allows this relatively small craft to have a complete open-ocean surveying capability that is unobtainable in a conventional vessel of a similar size. AVAILABILITY Pricus was designed to continue operations through WMO Sea State 4 and survive Sea State 6. Based on National Data Buoy Center records for 2019, the significant wave height in Rhode Island Sound remains at or below Sea State 4 more than 90% of the year. STABILITY Her SWATH hull form is inherently stable regardless of vessel speed or swell direction & provides a platform optimized for slow-speed seakeeping. She has four computer-controlled motion control planes to actively stabilize her to only two degrees of roll, even in 10-14 ft seas. LESS SEA SICKNESS In Sea State 4, R/V Pricus is designed for a Vertical Acceleration of only 0.04g’srms and Motion Sickness Index (MSI) of 1%rms. Pricus’s Vertical Acceleration is well within the tolerable area of human acceleration tolerance boundaries (the “threshold of malaise” is approximately 0.1 to 0.2g’srms and “intolerable conditions” are 0.20 to 0.60g’srms, depending on wave frequency). IMPERVIOUS TO DIRECTION OF SEAS SWATH seakeeping characteristics are far less susceptible to the direction of seas. With conventional vessels, the direction of the seas may force tracks to be laid out in an unfavorable geometry. With a SWATH vessel, the direction of the seas should be immaterial as long as sea states are within designed operating parameters of Sea State 4. This also helps contribute to less sea sickness. You have invested in top notch talent and equipment...pair them with a platform that will deliver a better deliverable ahead of schedule.

Pricus Marine was happy to support this project
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District is conducting site investigations for upcoming navigation improvements to the New Haven Harbor Federal Navigation project. The 5-mile Federal channel will be widened and deepened from 35 feet to 40 feet to allow improved navigation efficiencies and safety. Gina Romano, project geologist, has been overseeing the execution of marine geophysical surveys which will help identify the top of rock surface and quantify how much rock will need to be blasted during construction. These towed remote sensing apparatuses use acoustic technology to create an image of the subsurface, which is one of the tools that we are using to design the new channel. It’s expected that 4.32 million cubic yards of material, including 43,500 cubic yards of rock, will be dredged from the project. The New England District plans to use a significant portion of the dredged material beneficially to improve or create new habitat within the harbor.

It was a pleasure to work with First Capital Finance/Florida First Capital on the acquisition and refit if these vessels. They have been a great partner throughout the process.
Calling all history buffs! Assistant Processing Manager Stacey Green recently facilitated a unique deal for Pricus Marine, a hydrographic and geophysical surveying company that was featured on the History Channel. With the assistance of a #SBA504 loan, they acquired vessels which were essential in discovering one of Florida’s oldest shipwrecks. Visit our website to learn more about this exciting project and watch the episode.

Pricus Marine supporting search and investigation of wreck 700' below. Despite live-boating in 3.9kts of current, we were able to explore this wreck with an ROV and positively identify this WWII U-boat casualty.
Great footage of R/V Pricus supporting a History Channel wreck search episode in this 9 minute condensed version of the full episode. https://lnkd.in/gPd4C4Re

What happened to the side-scan towfish? In the season two episode of History's Bermuda Triangle - Into Cursed Waters, the towfish was snagged. Some have asked what happened to the towfish. The splice between the armored coax and the flexible connector was yanked apart. Easily fixed, but we didn't have time for the potting resin to cure so we weren't able to send it back out during the filming of the episode.
