EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT: Submit your films to have a chance to win $5,000 towards your next film project. Our goal is to give talented filmmakers the exposure and rewards they deserve, with our platform acting as the catalyst for personal success. This being our first competition, it is our first step in aiding filmmakers and creatives with the financing and resources to make their films a reality. Submit the film by emailing it to [email protected]. The film with the most votes in PREVO’s “Best Picture” category, with 500 votes or more as of September 30th, 2024, will be crowned the winner!

If you're thinking about submitting your student or independent film to PREVO ahead of our launch later this month, here are the three things that our submissions team looks at when evaluating new films: #1: Technical Proficiency (Not Necessarily Perfection) If you're submitting your film to PREVO, it absolutely needs to possess a high degree of technical proficiency. In other words, it needs to be polished. Major sound issues are more than likely to disqualify your film, for example. However, minor dips in audio quality or imperfect lighting may be overlooked, especially if your film, series, or documentary excel in the following two categories. Always ask yourself, "Would I submit this to a film festival?" If not, work on it some more and submit when your project is more polished. #2: Is the Narrative or Subject Matter Compelling? This is the most important of the three criteria for our submissions team. Whether your film is a serious documentary or a lighthearted romcom, the story itself needs to be interesting and keep the audience hooked. One of the ways that a story can be made more interesting is by being immaculately crafted and produced, so don't forget about the first category, either! We on the team believe that indie and student filmmakers have the most freedom of anyone in the filmmaking world, even most huge hit-makers. This is because smaller budgets ultimately mean that filmmakers are more liberated to tell stories that are far more interesting than standard popcorn fare. #3: A Great Story BEHIND the Camera As much as we love watching great stories play out on screen, hearing the stories behind those films can sometimes be even more intriguing. Whenever you submit a film, please be sure to include a few words about yourself, your artistic vision, and the production of the given film. This not only improves the chances of your work being accepted onto the platform, but it helps us promote you too, whether it be through marketing, interviews, etc. If you think that you have a film that would be a good fit for PREVO, please email us a copy at [email protected]. The distribution model for independent and student films is painfully outdated. While the lifecycle of major films has been established for decades and most recently revolutionized by streaming, most indie and student filmmakers find themselves stuck with only one release opportunity: film festivals. Sure, festivals are wonderful networking opportunities and can provide filmmakers with validating awards, but what about AFTER the festivals? Most filmmakers find that their films have nowhere to go but back to a hard drive or into the uncurated mass of content on a platform like YouTube. Regardless of which option a filmmaker chooses, the net result is the same: their film's buzz usually dies out, and they have very little to show for their work in the long term. Whereas major films have access to various distribution opportunities (large festival --> theaters --> streaming --> TV,) indies and student films have no platform on which to settle while continuing to generate excitement. Worst of all, indie-loving audience members (of which there are many) have no way to catch the best films produced each year as there are far too many festivals. No matter how dedicated a festival attendee may be, nobody can go to each of the +1,000 festivals held in the U.S. alone every year. Seeing these problems and the lack of attention paid to extremely talented filmmakers, we designed PREVO, the first streaming platform dedicated to showcasing a curated selection of indie films and putting the festival experience in the palm of your hand. Our platform will democratize the indie film distribution system and allow filmmakers' talent to speak for itself, without the need for massive distribution budgets. For audiences, they get the the benefits of a film festival (live Q&As, audience awards, workshops, and more) with the simplicity of Netflix. We are pioneering a new window for indie films after their festival runs, and I hope you will join us as we launch later this month on the web, iOS, and Android.
