Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s (HPA) student football manager, Isla Bradford, learned about the use of instrumented mouthguards to detect potentially dangerous head acceleration events while studying abroad at The Westlake School in New Zealand. Recognizing the potential benefits in her own program, Bradford reached out to Prevent to explore the available options for bringing the technology to HPA – where like so many other schools, athletic trainers at HPA can be outnumbered by student athletes at more than a 50:1 ratio. Click the link in the comments to read more about how Bradford was able to implement Prevent’s technology to protect student-athletes at HPA. #preventcasestudy #hawaiifootball #concussionsafety #instrumentedmouthguards #preventbiometrics

World Rugby’s use of Prevent’s instrumented mouthguards (iMGs) as a part of their Head Impact Assessment (HIA) protocol has come a long way in just four years. What started as a research study with 630 community level players in 2021, has evolved into a mandated protocol for over 8,000 elite level players on rugby’s biggest global stages. Prevent is honored to continue to work alongside World Rugby in their steadfast dedication to advancing player safety at all levels of the game by providing prompt, accurate and reliable head acceleration data throughout tournaments, matches and training. #WorldRugby #headimpact #impactmonitoring #mouthguards #preventbiometrics #playersafety #ORCHIDstudy #HIAprotocol

The Prevent Biometrics impact monitoring system serves as a team’s data center for head acceleration events (HAEs) collected from players’ instrumented mouthguards (iMGs). With real time transmission via bluetooth network, onsite medical personnel can address impacted players within second for further analysis. In addition to individual HAEs, the analytics dashboard enables team officials to efficiently track and pinpoint the magnitude, location, and time stamp of a player’s impact load over time. iMG technology has become a critical tool in the advancement of player welfare initiatives. #PreventBiometrics #SportsTech #ImpactMonitoring #PlayerSafety #HeadImpactData

If you’ve caught any of the World Rugby Six Nations Championship coverage, you may have noticed a small device on the waistband of match referees. At just 44mm (1.7 in.) square, Prevent's Bluetooth Extender for Accurate Monitoring (BEAM) serves as a signal relay for the transmission of head impact data captured by players’ instrumented mouthguards (iMGs) to onsite medical personnel. By leveraging the referee’s proximity to game action, the entire pitch effectively becomes a mobile hot spot, allowing team and league medical personnel to identify and assess at-risk players in real time. The BEAM is plug-and-play, operating seamlessly without manual intervention or internet connection, making it suitable for any environment, from 80,000+ seat stadiums to the community game. #GuinnessM6N #WorldRugby #PreventBiometrics

Last month, Prevent Biometrics was at Fort Liberty, working in conjunction with the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), and the 82nd Airborne Division to improve American soldier health and safety. This study marks a historic first by leveraging the accuracy of instrumented mouthguard (iMG) data to assess the immediate impacts of blunt force head trauma sustained during parachute landing falls. Combining real-time iMG impact data with WRAIR's in-depth clinical evaluations means an immediate, tangible difference in advancing and protecting brain health in the field. #DefenseHealth #WRAIR #PreventBiometrics

Chief Medical Officer at World Rugby, éanna Falvey recently spoke with Sports Business Journal to discuss how Prevent Biometrics’ instrumented mouthguards (iMGs) aid World Rugby’s medical staff. iMGs are not a diagnostic tool, rather they supply the data to help identify which players need to be evaluated for a possible head injury in real time. “We’re using it as a device that picks up a large impact. A concussion actually is a clinical diagnosis. There’s more to it than just [the] impact,” Falvey said. “It’s never going to be just about the impact. But that impact is putting the right players in front of us to have a look at.” Click the link in the comments below to read the full story in SBJ. #preventbiometrics #worldrugby #headimpactassessment #instrumentedmouthguard #sportsmedicine #sportsbusinessjournal

Instrumented mouthguards (iMGs) are now a critical tool in World Rugby’s Head Injury Assessment (HIA) protocol, helping identify players who may have sustained concussions. At the recent World Rugby Medical Conference, World Rugby Chief Medical Officer éanna Falvey discussed how iMGs are integrated into the assessment process, alongside other evaluation methods, to elevate player safety on and off the field.
