Positive Childhood Alliance Georgia is a statewide affiliate of Prevent Child Abuse America, with the mission to prevent the abuse and neglect of Georgia’s children through education, advocacy, and promoting evidence-based prevention strategies. Strengthening Families Georgia (SFG) is launching its free, self-paced online Community Café Facilitator training. This training equips individuals to facilitate Community Cafés (sometimes referred to as Parent Cafés), an approach for engaging caregivers in meaningful conversations and building social connections. All community members who are dedicated to strengthening families are encouraged to register. The course is 3.5 hours in length but can be completed at your own pace over multiple days. No professional training or background is needed. Objective: Participants will learn techniques to facilitate Community Cafés that help families increase awareness and use of the five protective factors: parental resilience, social connections, knowledge of child development, concrete support, and social and emotional competence of children. Resources and Materials: Participants will be able to download a trainer guide and printable materials during the online training. Additionally, participants will receive a set of café conversation cards and a facilitator manual via mail after completing the online training and evaluation. Requirements: Participants are required to complete the Strengthening Families Protective Factor self-paced training module titled Bringing the Protective Factors Framework to Life in Your Work: Introduction and Overview completing the Community Café Facilitator Training. Join Positive Childhood Alliance Georgia, formerly Prevent Child Abuse Georgia and the Division of Family and Children Services, Prevention and Community Support Section and other child advocacy partner organizations from across the state on Tuesday, March 18 to recognize April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Please arrive by 9:45 a.m. at the North Wing staircase for a 10 a.m. photo with Gov. Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp. Additionally, District 42 State Senator Elena Parent will recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month between 11-11:30 a.m. from the Senate floor; report to the Senate gallery if you would like to be present for this honor. PCA Georgia representatives will be in the rotunda from noon-1 p.m. to demonstrate strong support for Georgia's families. Any additional details will be shared via PCA Georgia social media in advance of March 18.
