In 2018, President James Ryan charged the Community Working Group with identifying opportunities to "strengthen the University’s relationship with the Charlottesville community." The group took that charge and distributed a community feedback survey, which received more than 3,000 responses from Charlottesville and Albemarle County residents. The survey was designed to be simple and quick and to result in a ranked list of priority areas that became the President's Council's six working groups on affordable housing, community safety, early childhood education, the local economy, UVA Pipelines & Pathways, and public health. Six years later, the Council is conducting the same survey to check in with community members: Are the working groups addressing your priorities? Are you familiar with the Council's work? ??Last week, UVA Pipelines & Pathways was honored to celebrate the program completion of our first HOOS Caring cohort. Eight individuals successfully completed training, which included AHA HeartSaver CPR/First Aid/AED certification, OSHA 10 General Industry certification, and training on computer basics, de-escalation, workplace readiness, customer service, psychological first aid, and more. Congratulations to our HOOS Caring graduates who all started their first day on the job on Monday, October 28th! We wish you the best of luck in your new careers as Patient Companions at UVA Health!?? A big thank you to our partners on this effort... Yesterday, UVA Pipelines & Pathways enjoyed participating in the Charlottesville Area Justice Coalition's panel on transitional housing in the Charlottesville community. We were honored to be included in this event, as stable housing plays such a significant role in obtaining and maintaining employment! We loved making some new connections and hope to continue our partnership in the future!
