The technological landscape has changed significantly since the establishment of the HIPAA Privacy Rule. Technology tools like mHealth apps, which generate, store, and use individuals’ health data, are not often covered under HIPAA. Despite efforts to protect health data outside the purview of HIPAA, significant compliance and interpretation challenges remain barriers to data sharing. Greater efforts are needed to evaluate existing privacy and security regulations and laws to improve policies to better protect patient data while facilitating data sharing to support #Tech4CancerNavigation.?https://lnkd.in/emz5eSRM

Advisors to the President on the National Cancer Program:
关于我们
The mission of the President's Cancer Panel is to monitor the activities of the National Cancer Program and report to the President of the United States on barriers to progress in reducing the burden of cancer. The Panel was established by law in 1971 when the National Cancer Act was signed by President Richard Nixon. Panel members are distinguished members of the scientific, research, and public communities appointed by the President of the United States to serve three-year terms. The President's Cancer Panel conducts a series of meetings on a selected topic to gather input from key stakeholders. The Panel forms its recommendations, and findings are presented to the President of the United States. Staff members of the President's Cancer Panel coordinate the work that advances the Panel's mission with support from a team of science writers and meeting planners.

New draft recommendations from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force adds self-collected HPV tests in its recommendation—an action the Panel called for in its 2022 report to facilitate equitable access to cervical cancer screening. Self-sampling can extend the?benefits of cancer screening, particularly to those who cannot or do not want to participate in traditional screening. However, it is essential that individuals performing self-sampling for HPV tests are connected with a healthcare provider or system that will answer questions, provide results, and be accountable for facilitating the next steps in case of an abnormal result. The Task Force’s draft recommendation statement and evidence review are available for public comment: https://lnkd.in/euuePDiX

Effective cancer care delivery depends on the timely exchange of patient health data and the interoperability of health information technology. The Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy/Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ASTP/ONC) leads and coordinates national interoperability efforts to enable the exchange of patient data across health IT platforms. Current ASTP/ONC programs advancing interoperability include: ? HHS Health IT Alignment Policy guides health IT activities and investments across HHS to advance interoperability and ensure department-funded health IT efforts facilitate data sharing and collaboration. ? HTI-1 rule updates the ASTP/ONC certification program, which requires health information technology developers comply with?core data standards for interoperability to obtain certification. ? TEFCA establishes a universal governance, policy, and technical framework for nationwide interoperability. The Panel encourages continued progress toward interoperability at the federal, industry, and health systems level to create a seamless workflow for #Tech4CancerNavigation. Dedicated private spaces within public places in the community can help increase patient access to telehealth appointments. Public libraries are leading this charge by implementing telehealth programs within their facilities. The Panel encourages continued support in the form of funding and outreach to libraries and public training in digital skills to facilitate patient access to virtual services & advance #Tech4CancerNavigation: https://lnkd.in/ejSmjRVq

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) provided crucial financial support to help U.S. households afford internet access. An estimated 23 million households across the country benefited from this program. Yet despite its known impact, funding for the ACP ended in May 2024, limiting internet access for many Americans. To support #Tech4CancerNavigation, the Panel calls on the continued and sustainable funding for federal programs, such as the ACP, facilitating internet access for U.S. households. Explore our two recommendations for ensuring equitable patient access to technology for #PatientNavigation: https://lnkd.in/ejSmjRVq
