We are proud to share that ten POAH properties will receive state funds to upgrade internet access for our residents through grants announced by the Healey-Driscoll administration and the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MassTech) Wednesday.?The funding will allow us to install modern cabling in each apartment, increasing residents’ access to high-quality, reliable and affordable broadband service. MassTech’s Massachusetts Broadband Institute awarded over $10 million in grants for improved access in nearly 8,000 public and affordable housing units across 26 Massachusetts communities through the?Residential Retrofit Program, an initiative that works with housing operators and internet service providers (ISPs) to upgrade broadband infrastructure in public and affordable housing properties. When we commit to clean energy, we create more sustainable, efficient, and affordable communities. This past weekend, Aaron Wiener of The Washington Post featured Brightcore's geothermal installation happening at Barry Farm, a historically significant mixed-use, multi-family development. It is the first large-scale community geothermal system to be installed in D.C. This project brings together public and private entities to implement leading clean energy technologies in what are oftentimes, underserved communities. Alongside POAH Communities, the DC Housing Authority, and the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia, we're proud to lead this effort to deploy next-generation geothermal heating and cooling to D.C. residents—proving that sustainability and urban environments can go hand in hand. POAH's Managing Director of Real Estate Development, Rodger L. Brown, Jr., delivered the keynote address at the Developers Workshop at The Idea Center @ Miami Dade College?last Tuesday. Hosted by Representative Ashley V. Gantt, Esq. and Representative Vicki L. Lopez this was a collaborative workshop of policymakers, developers, and community leaders addressing the complexities and urgent need for affordable housing in Miami-Dade County. Progress photos from another chilly, yet beautiful winter day in #Wellfleet, as we work on the Residences at Lawrence Hill for Preservation of Affordable Housing! This new #PassiveHouse development will feature an Upper Village with 22 townhouses and 2 flats across seven buildings, and a Lower Village with a three-story building containing 24 one- and two-bedroom units. Altogether, the project will bring 46 energy-efficient, affordable housing units to the Outer Cape, along with resident-friendly spaces, including a community building with a BBQ area, gardens, laundry facilities, and 69 parking spaces.
