#10Most Endangered Historic Site in #SayrevilleNJ #MiddlesexCounty has a new lease on life. On election day, borough voters determined the future of the 1909 Town Hall/Firehouse by overwhelmingly voting in favor of the referendum to preserve the building. PNJ looks forward to seeing progress on this site. #njhistory #historicpreservation #preservationadvocacy #thisplacematters

Stephen W. Schwartz AlA, established and headed the firm SWS Architects for 53 years, until his retirement this past year. About 25 years ago he was asked to explain to a class of second grade students how a city is designed. Loaded with a small collection of #LEGO building blocks, he set out to give the students a lesson in zoning by building a city the size of their classroom. Ten years later, the Montclair Historical Society was looking to create a family program on the rich architectural history of #Montclair. What developed was a dynamic program method that Schwartz has designed for historic societies in #NewJersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Schwartz will be honored at the 2024 New Jersey Historic Preservation awards for the development of this program which brings the importance of architecture and understanding its value to the community to the classroom. #historicpreservation #njhistory #community

Lock 2 East located in #WhartonNJ #MorrisCounty was one of twenty-four traditional locks within the #MorrisCanal system, which spanned Northern New Jersey. It overcame an eight-foot elevation change and today the site hosts one of only a handful of sections of the canal prism that reflects its historic appearance. We are pleased to honor Connolly & Hickey Historical Architects a 2024 Preservation Craftsmanship Award for the Morris Canal Lock 2 East Restoration Project, that demonstrates excellent craftsmanship skills in construction. Connolly and Hickey prepared the Historic Site Master Plan for the site which helped guide the restoration of the lock, as well as the #restoration and #rehabilitation of the Lock Tender’s House and other site features. #NJHistory @connollyandhickeyhistoricalarchitects

We congratulate the students and professionals that have contributed to the restoration of Horton Mansion in #NewtonNJ #SussexCounty. This new initiative demonstrates creative and new opportunities for #preservation, #education, and community engagement. Sussex County Community College @sussexcountycc is being honored with a 2024 New Jersey Preservation award for the restoration work of Horton Mansion and creating new coursework designed for on-hands learning of #restoration projects.

The Asbury Park African-American Music Project Inc. is a volunteer-led, community-driven, non-profit organization that celebrates the stories of Springwood Avenue, the heart of Asbury Park's African American community - a place that shares narratives with African American communities throughout NJ and around the country. We are thrilled and excited to have two National Preservation Awards showcasing New Jersey! #HinchliffeStadium in #PatersonNJ was awarded the prestigious 2024 Richard H. Driehaus Foundation National #Preservation Awards from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The awards were presented during the opening ceremony at NTHP’s annual conference, PastForward, in New Orleans on October 28th. In partnership with Paterson, developers RPM Development Group and BAW Development led a more than $100 million rehabilitation and development project funded by federal historic tax credits, New Markets Tax Credits, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, National Park Service grants, state and city sources, and developer equity. Clarke Caton Hintz led the architecture and engineering team through the challenges of restoration and rehabilitation while providing the necessary modern amenities needed in a sports complex.
