September is #NICUAwarenessMonth! #NICU stands for neonatal intensive care unit. In these hospital units, caregivers support babies born prematurely or with certain medical conditions. Let's celebrate our amazing NICU caregivers who work with our tiniest patients! HealthONE is proud to be part of our broader network — HCA Healthcare — one of the nation's leading network for delivering babies. Last year alone, our hospitals welcomed more than 212,000 newborns. As partners of March of Dimes, we are dedicated to advocating for the health of all moms and babies. #ImproveMoreLives #NICUAwareness

Great work, Katie Nash, RN, Mom-Baby, on being named a DAISY award winner! The patient who nominated Katie shared that she taught the family invaluable tips and tricks, empowering them with confidence to take their new baby home. Her infectious personality and humor put the family at ease, and they felt like she was caring for them as she would a member of her own family. The nomination read, “Katie went above and beyond caring for us and our little baby boy. Not only was Katie thorough and professional, but she also was funny and the best company during our long days here. She is the best care provider I have ever come across and an even better person!”

Way to go, Ami Miller, RN, NICU IV, who has been named a DAISY award winner! Her patient-written nomination describes how Ami lovingly cared for their 28-week twins, after a shocking and stressful arrival. The family describes Ami going above and beyond by providing scent cloths to place in the isolettes so the babies would become familiar with the parents’ scents; helping mom ‘dry breastfeed’ to help with later success of breastfeeding and always explaining what she was doing or why alarms were going off. “I truly don’t think our girls would have improved and graduated as quickly as they did without the extra care and support from nurse Ami.”

Nominated by patients and family members, our DAISY award winners are often recognized for their extraordinary care, and Barbara Lyons, RN, is no exception. As one of our parent educators, Barbara leads our weekly #breastfeeding support group, guiding new moms on their breastfeeding journey. When a 34-week pregnant woman attended the group, thinking it was a prenatal breastfeeding class, she became frustrated at her mistake. Barbara’s compassion shined through when she chose to spend an hour teaching and preparing the soon-to-be-mom for her breastfeeding experience. “She helped me a lot and answered all of my questions. She save my day and turned a bad experience into a good one.” #WorldBreastfeedingWeek
