??We need your help to make PREreview better!?? We would greatly appreciate your participation in a short survey to help us understand your experiences of engaging with us at PREreview! Your feedback is vital in shaping the future of our work at PREreview and ensuring that our community is as welcoming, useful, and engaging for our members as possible. The survey should only take 7-10 minutes, and your insights will play a key role in guiding our efforts to better serve you and the wider community, particularly in how we communicate and how we might further improve our programs and platform. We would be very grateful for your time and you can find the survey here:?https://lnkd.in/eE3S6kwF Thank you!

Catalyzing change in peer review through equity, openness, and collaboration.
关于我们
PREreview's mission is to bring more diversity and equity to scholarly peer review by supporting and empowering communities of researchers, particularly those at early stages of their career (ECRs) and historically underrepresented in scholarship, to review preprints in a process that is rewarding to them. PREreview gives systematically disadvantaged scientists better ways to find a voice, train, and engage in peer review. Our work is a direct response to the flawed way scientific research is evaluated. Behind closed doors, a handful of unpaid reviewers—selected opaquely and mainly through personal connections—use subjective criteria to decide the fate of a research article. This arcane process is slow and disadvantages researchers from historically underrepresented groups. PREreview is a fiscally sponsored project of the non-profit organization Code for Science and Society and is funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and the Wellcome Trust. Last month I lead the microbiology crowd of ASAPbio to review a #preprint and publish the discussion in PREreview. Here is a glimpse, and a call #researchers, especially #EarlyCareerResearchers, to join the movement to revolutionise #ScholarlyCommunication #OpenScience #PeerReview #ScienceCommunication #PREReview #PreprintReview

?? We're celebrating a milestone at PREreview.org! ?? 1,000 PREreviews published! ?? A huge thanks to our amazing community for driving transparency and collaboration in peer review. Here’s to empowering and amplifying even more diverse voices in research evaluation! Did you know.. ? You can write your reviews using a freeform box, via a light template, or via our Structured Review workflow. Here you have a series of community-developed questions to help you structure your review. Check out this recent review for example: https://lnkd.in/e_SJGiwg ? You can review collaboratively! We have 24 (and growing) PREreview Clubs, find one that aligns with your interests or start your own. We also run Live Reviews which bring researchers around the globe to review a preprint together in real time. Take a look at this review from our recent Live Review event with the JMIR Publications Club: https://lnkd.in/eV6arAZk ? You can review in languages other than English? We have many non-English preprint review requests, particularly in Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, via our COAR Notify integration with SciELO - Scientific Electronic Library Online. Here's an example which was published recently: https://lnkd.in/eQxArsQw ? You can also find preprints requesting reviews via our website and in our Community Slack (https://lnkd.in/efNkdddu). This review was written by PREreview Champion Lamis Elkheir & the African Reproducibility Network as part of their training program and in response to a review request: https://lnkd.in/ec5TMyPA All reviews are citable with a DOI via Zenodo and reviewers have the option to be credited via ORCID . Looking to get started? Create an account, search review requests and/or join a collaborative PREreview Club! Reach out at [email protected] with any questions!

A rare glimpse behind the scenes of PREreview! Earlier this month (some of) the PREreview team got together on our all-staff retreat in Washington DC. As an all-remote team it's really important to have dedicated time to meet up and spend together, but we also did some big blue sky thinking about the future of PREreview, discussed next steps in our localization and translation work, brainstormed how to improve the PREreview.org website to make it easier to get started as a new user, and also took a deep dive into exploring own personal work styles and communication preferences. Thanks again to all our community members who provides us feedback via any of our user research activities or the?survey, we really do take your comments on board, we aim to always remain community-led and keep PREreview for YOU! Our community survey is also still open and we are hoping for a few more responses to help shape the future direction of our work, your input would be much appreciated: https://lnkd.in/eE3S6kwF

The Rwanda Preprint Club has published a fantastic collaborative review of 'Empowering future scientists: Mentors employ various strategies to engage students in professional science disciplinary literacy practices' (https://lnkd.in/eXS-KMC4) this #OAWeek. The Club ran a PREreview Live Review facilitated by Roseline Dzekem DINE along with a member of the PREreview team. During a Live Review, participants are guided through a constructive discussion of a manuscript, the discussion notes are then compiled into a final review to be published (with a DOI) and review authors have the option of being recognised for their work via ORCID. If you want to learn more you can check out our website (https://lnkd.in/e-w_2Zse) and/or reach out to us at [email protected].
The Rwanda Preprint Club concludes Open Science week by reviewing an interesting article about the role of mentors in assisting pre-college students in developing essential scientific literacy skills, with a focus on underrepresented groups in STEM fields [https://lnkd.in/dSvZMkSb]. The club will continue to promote Open Science through preprint review. PREreview eLife Sciences Publications, Ltd.
