Our Chewuch River project was an Archello House of the Month in April! A high, linear roof gestures emphatically toward the river and foothills beyond, forming a primary axis. A low, rectilinear form intersects, creating a distinctive cruciform plan that informs all design moves in this small home. https://lnkd.in/gzn-9bDP

“Ellie and Bob loved the land and, in particular, the wildflowers carpeting the ground beneath the trees, and wanted to ‘build in a way that would keep the integrity of that land as much as possible,’ Ellie said. The Winthrop Library has received an Honor Award from AIA Seattle. By using LEED Silver metrics as a guide (but not seeking certification), the design and construction teams built the most sustainable building possible within the project budget. The Library is the result of collaboration between PBW, Johnston Architects, Friends of the Winthrop Library, and the entire Methow Valley community, and we could not be more proud of it! "Winthrop Library?by?Johnston Architects?and?Prentiss Balance Wickline Architects?takes inspiration from the features, scale, and beauty of the natural environment of Washington’s Methow Valley. The site, a nexus of community life in the valley, is near a trailhead, a preschool, a care facility for elders, and an interpretive center that tells the story of the indigenous Methow people. The jury appreciated the beauty in its simplicity and felt it was a restoration of civic spirit and a space that allowed the mind to expand." https://lnkd.in/gJqEMw7E
