Patient access is a key driver of patient acquisition, satisfaction and retention – all of which deeply influence care quality and provider revenue. Today, patients seeking convenient and timely care options gravitate toward providers who offer optimal access, whether that means shorter wait times, flexible scheduling or easy connections to specialty services. However, patient access challenges persist: ? New Premier data shows, on average, a 53 percent increase in lead times across all specialties with larger spikes in some areas since 2020. ? Virtual visits have dropped nearly 50 percent since 2020 across all specialties. Premier has renewed its partnership with Carilion Clinic, a not-for-profit health system providing care for nearly 1 million Virginians. The collaboration has achieved over $10 million in savings since May 2024 and is poised to enable continued efficiencies and performance improvement across the system. The partnership will focus on driving supply chain optimization through people, processes and technology for operational excellence and long-term value, including Carilion’s involvement in Premier’s highly committed AscenDrive? program and engagement with Premier’s Pharmacy services. With the renewal, Premier will continue to support Carilion by enhancing its sourcing/contracting strategies, data management and supply chain operations. Carillion will also continue leveraging Premier’s advanced technologies like the High-Value Implant Dashboard, Service Line Analytics and Purchased Services platform for spend insights, benchmarking and AI-driven contract analysis.

Premier’s Population Health Management Collaborative (PHMC) members achieved record Medicare Shared Savings Program savings in 2023, outperforming the national average for all ACOs and earning over $302 million in performance payments. Succeeding within VBC models can be challenging, but PHMC member results show that a shared mission, effective collaboration, peer-to-peer benchmarking and data-driven performance improvement can help some make the transition faster, with higher-quality outcomes.
