This week, in the middle of a keynote, I was stopped in my tracks. As I shared about the power of listening—how truly hearing our fans inspired Never Stop (Wedding Version)—I noticed a man subtly gesture toward the woman next to him. Curious, I asked why. That’s when Carlie spoke up. She shared that Never Stop wasn’t just a song to her—it was a part of her love story, the song she walked down the aisle to. Thirteen years after its release, it still held deep meaning in her life. The video tells it better than I ever could, but the moment was unexpected, beautiful and humbling. Right there, mid-keynote, I got to hear firsthand how something that means so much to me had become just as meaningful to someone else. Carlie’s genuine gratefulness left me speechless. She spoke with warmth, generosity, and a love for her husband that was palpable. I left that stage feeling deeply grateful—reminded again of the impact a song, a story, or even a single moment can have on someone’s life. Never stop listening. If you know me/worked with me/followed me for any length of time, you know that one of the core tenets of my entire adult life has been prioritizing relationships, community, and connection. I've turned my life into a bit of a social experiment asking the question: "If the science shows that the single greatest predictor of our happiness, fulfillment, and longevity is the quality of our relationships and friendships, why don't we prioritize it like it matters as much as the science says it does?" In my professional life, I've built and grown global, multi-million dollar organizations indexing on the power of community and connection to drive organizational growth and impact and have helped other organizations do the same. In my personal life, I've co-created a proximate "modern-day village" where I share property and daily life with my best friends in a community marked by support, fulfillment, and FUN. (And no, we don't bake sourdough, live off the grid, or share spouses, LOL. We're "normal" folks living "normal life" with the belief that healthy, committed, life-giving relationships are worth investment and prioritization.) Many of us know by now that we are in the midst of a loneliness epidemic here in America. But I think what a lot of us DON'T realize is that this reality doesn't have to become some inevitable meme that we all collectively bemoan and suffer from. We have agency! We CAN build workplaces AND lives marked by connection, community, and social health. And it starts with YOU. In the workplace. In your neighborhood. In your family. We CAN design differently (and better!) for the future. It's one of the great honors of my life to get to share my life-tested theories and lessons learned in community architecting and building on stages across the globe through my talk: The Community Quotient.
