In honor of Black History Month, we wanted to take a moment to remember Mary Eliza Mahoney, the first trained Black nurse in America. ?????? After she graduated from the New England Hospital for Women and Children in Boston, she became a private, familial nurse. Mary was a trailblazer for women in the healthcare field and was one of the first Black members of the Nurses Associated Alumnae of the United States and Canada. Ann's nursing resume is filled with impressive accomplishments including: - Completing a dual enrollment Practical Nursing program with honors in high school - Attaining a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Florida SouthWestern State College - Graduating from the University of South Florida with her Master’s of Science in Nursing as an Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. During a clinical rotation at Premier Mobile Health Services, she became acutely aware of how health disparities can affect patients' outcomes and now has a passion for underserved communities.
