Stephen Covey’s timeless advice, “Begin with the end in mind,” is a powerful principle for families navigating governance and legacy planning. When families start with a clear vision of their desired legacy, they lay the foundation for thoughtful decision-making, sustainable growth, and lasting unity. Family governance isn’t just about creating policies or managing assets –it’s about aligning values, defining a shared purpose, and ensuring the legacy reflects what truly matters. By envisioning the future you want for your family, you can build governance structures that honor tradition, promote collaboration, and thrive across generations. The journey begins with asking: What impact do we want to leave, and how can we achieve it together? Let us help you start with the end in mind. Seasons of a family council A month ago I helped facilitate a meeting of global families that were beyond teir 4th generation of evolution. Many of them recounted a period of quiet and low energy, often followed by new blood, new energy and a renewal of activity taking new paths and new directions. It brought to mind that the evolution of a business family is not a linear path from birth to death, but rather cycles of activity and quiet as the family faces different challenges and pursues different pathways. It led me to this article on the "seasons" of family governance, that I hope you can enjoy, for my column in Family Business Magazine. https://lnkd.in/gD3xDthX
