Pregones/PRTT presents the New York Premiere of?Riding the Currents of the Wilding Wind?this weekend on Friday, October 18, or Saturday, October 19, at Pregones Theater (575 Walton Avenue) in The Bronx. Curtain time is at 7:00 PM. https://qrco.de/Riding Collaboratively created by Grammy Award-winning musician?Martha Gonzalez?and Herb Alpert Award-winning writer?Virginia Grise, and directed by?Kendra Ware, the production conjures characters and stories from Helena María Viramontes’ novel?Their Dogs Came with Them?into a multifaceted sonic and visual landscape animated by Mexican and Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, funk, rock, and gospel. This all-in-one concert, concept album, and live theater performance sizzles with the drama of urban planning, gentrification, and identity explored in Viramontes’ novel and based on her childhood in East Los Angeles. New York City audiences will find vivid parallels with Robert Moses-era public works and the impact of the construction of the Cross Bronx Expressway on local communities.

WE DID IT!! I am still in a daze after the amazing experience at the Academia de las Artes Escénicas de Espa?a (Academy for the Performing Arts of Spain)’s Awards Gala. GRACIAS to the Academy and its Nominating Committee for awarding a PREMIO TALíA to PregonesPRTT for our production THE RED ROSE. We had the honor of being nominated for two productions: ¨The Red Rose” and “Quarter Rican”. I attended the event with our colleague Yaraní Del Valle and we were able to connect with multiple artists from across Spain, Mexico, as well with our colleagues Javier Molina (Actor’s Studio)-also an awardee, and Repertorio Espa?ol, also nominated. The Academy awards - PREMIO TALíA - are given to a broad sector of performing artists in Spain, and to nominated companies in its International category. THANK YOU to the source of our inspiration for creating The Red Rose: JESúS COLóN, a trailblazer, a fearless leader. Without his words, The Red Rose would not have been possible. THANK YOU for all the heartwarming messages, now flowing from variuos parts of the world. My heart is beating fast.

Tonight’s the night! The events leading to the Awards ceremony have been amazing. Yesterday, old and new friends got together for a wonderful Round Table, organized by the Academy. Sharing the space with colleagues from Spain, Mexico and Argentina was inspiring. We walked together to a great spot in the area for a drink, then some of us went to see a magnificent play at Teatro Nacional de La Comedia, then to a walk with the incredible Carmen Márquez. And there it was…close to midnight and preparations for tonight’s Red Carpet were on their way. Today, we prepare… It’s a beautiful, sunny day in Madrid. @academiadelasartesescenicases @pregonesprtt

Ohhhh so many amazing moments during the 2024 NALAC Advocacy Leadership Institute in DC this past week. The Fellows are still sharing the amazing moments as we walked our way into great institutions, conversations and the Hill. Everyone is back home and, as I landed in Madrid this morning, I kept thinking about the meaning of each moment and hopeful about what we can continue achieve, working collectively.
