We have many in our American audience with different political views, and that’s okay; but one thing we can align on: most of the patients/consumers who follow us at pregnantish are navigating healthcare and their reproductive futures. So many in our audience need to freeze embryos (including those with cancer or for other medical reasons), navigate devastating chapters like miscarriage, may experience high risk pregnancies and need access to treatment from qualified professionals. We are in full alignment on this statement from ASRM in 2022. These decisions need to be made by medical professionals, not politicians.

So many highlights at this year's ASRM, including kicking it off as a speaker at the CADE Foundation American Society for Reproductive Medicine - ASRM Social Media Summit where I shared, "Why Your Message is More Important Than Your Follower Count" Justin Dubin M.D. and I both reflected the fact that so much of this audience?consumes content behind the scenes -- so looks are deceiving! Bottom line: fertility education and support will reach people -- even if they don't tell you with a 'like' or a 'follow' (+so many these days purchase fake likes/ follows/views, which is another reason we shouldn't rely on these metrics to measure engagement!) Always lovely to see our friend, first US "Test Tube Baby" Elizabeth Carr, and to hear from the other great speakers at the Summit: Lucky Sekhon, M.D. Serena H Chen MD (she, her) Camille Hammond MD MPH Andrea Leon, Dani Wade, Alease Daniel Barnes Jessica Ryniec Blake Evans, MD, Until next year!

This #throwbackthursday, we're still flying high from our “Diversity of Infertility” Thought-Leader Summit in?#NYC?last week - pregnantish’s 38th live event - where we covered the diverse people in this community & ways families are created today. The day kicked off with a spotlight interview and follow up with?(new!) single mom by choice -?Eboni K. Williams?- who was on the pregnantish podcast discussing her IVF journey and why it was important to her to find a black sperm donor. A room of fierce fertility advocates, amazing specialists?and HCPS?including?Prelude Fertility?,?Alease Daniel Barnes,?Tia Jackson-Bey, M.D., MPH,?Karen Tang, MD, MPH,?Shieva Ghofrany?Brian A. Levine, MD, MS, FACOG, Whitney Angel, RN, BSN?& more!), industry thought leaders, public people and media stars (thank you?Chloe Melas?from?NBC News,?Maggie Parker?from Katie Couric Media?&?Mia de Graaf?from?Insider, Inc.!) gathered all in an effort to elevate the conversation of infertility & modern family building. We featured 9 fertility focused talks and panels over the 9 hour event and had a room full of advocates and thousands online?grateful?for the education and support. Thank you so much to the industry partners who supported this event: Our Diamond Sponsor, Inception Fertility Prelude Fertility MyEggBank Ferring Pharmaceuticals EMD Serono, Inc. Should the IVF industry have regulations and ethical oversight in place? Absolutely. But, this weekend's Sunday Times' headline about designer IVF in CA is incredibly misleading, fringe + even damaging as we try to educate people globally about the need to access important treatments like IVF. Too many already think fertility treatments are a choice reserved only for rich white women. This headline perpetuates this myth and our American and UK audience is loudly responding on our IG channel!

Fertility startups now make it easier to loop in clients’ parents (or in-laws) to cover high treatment costs. But mixing family, money, and reproductive health can have its own complications... We're hopeful that the future of fertility includes lower costs, better insurance coverage + more access to care for all the people who need ART to build their families! Andrea Syrtash from pregnantish weighed in in Fast Company's coverage on this topic with her personal experience:

We went live almost 8 years ago as the first platform dedicated to helping people navigate fertility and to show, through high quality content, events and education, what's possible when science meets family. In a world where dystopian fertility headlines continue to trend, we're committed to showcasing the incredible innovation and developments in this growing category. Throwback to the Patient Care Awards at ESHRE last week and our honor to receive Best Social Media Channel 2024! Thank you so much for this award and acknowledgment The European Fertility Society (EFS) Some think social media is fluff and ego (& sometimes it is!); but for those navigating painful experiences, it's a channel that provides much needed support that's been called a 'lifeline'... Did you know most people in this community silently consume social media content? Don't get distracted by likes and views as you may still be reaching them deeply. Today, social media is an important part of getting out relevant fertility education, support and advocacy messages. Our recent study at pregnantish reflected this, too. Thank you The European Fertility Society, the pregnantish team and our amazing community that helps our channels help so many each week. Here are a few photos from this great night in Amsterdam!

"HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, IVF! An Interview with Early "Test Tube Baby" Parents" is the newest pregnantish podcast! This month, July 2024, marks 46 years since the world's first IVF baby, Louise Joy Brown, was born. Since this historic day, that made international headlines, the International Committee for Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technologies estimates that at least 12 million babies have been born as a result of IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies, making “science babies” ubiquitous, albeit still too often misunderstood by the general public. The guests on this episode, Ellen Weir Casey and Laurie Sirus, underwent in-vitro fertilization in the early days of IVF when the general public, news, and media called babies born from this procedure "test tube babies" -- even though no test tubes were involved! Ellen became Colorado's first IVF mom and Laurie delivered twins via IVF after grappling with the decision to pursue treatment due to the fact that it was still considered a somewhat experimental procedure, and since she knew the Catholic faith prohibited it. This episode also features an interview with Laurie’s daughter, Abigail Sirus, who has a new appreciation for the incredible lengths her parents went to to have her and her brother now that she works in the industry. Dr. Sasmira Lalwani, Senior Medical Director Reproductive Medicine and Maternal Health at Ferring Pharmaceuticals, the episode sponsor, also joins the show's midroll to discuss Ferring's commitment to driving forward positive change in ART.
