Super Bowl is often a topic of marketing conjecture… and like any topic on creative – everyone has an opinion. This year, Stellantis showed up exclusively in the category, something that hasn’t happened in over 20 years. Advertising in the Big Game is a significant investment. In fact, the single largest one-hit media buy a company can make here in the United States. So, it’s no surprise that this year, during such a transformational time in our industry, automakers are weighing up the return on such investments. Back in 2011, Chrysler produced the first 2-minute Super Bowl commercial in history with "Imported from Detroit" featuring Eminem. At that moment, our eternal mentor and then-CEO, Sergio Marchionne, encouraged me to foster a creative culture that had us shroud our beautiful films in secrecy until they aired. Winning hearts and minds with the element of surprise means driving emotion through goosebumps, tears, or laughter. It's also about producing films rooted in celebrating the essence of our iconic brands, that represent unmatched history, community, and culture. This is a recipe for Super Bowl success we’ve followed for nearly a decade and a half. 2025 is going to be one of the biggest years ever for Stellantis in the U.S., led by the strength of the Jeep and Ram brands. A return to greatness, so to speak. The brief from our Chairman, John Elkann, was to “make Sergio proud”. Investing in three minutes to deliver three deeply profound words. We had a big job to do. This year, I had the privilege to produce two films: one 60 second for Ram featuring the hilarious Glen Powell and one two-minute for Jeep featuring the iconic Harrison Ford. Both films are anchored in a common theme: choice. To quote a line from Harrison Ford, “we won’t always agree on which way to go, but our differences can be our strength… choose what makes you happy.” Both Jeep and Ram offer a range choice, and like marketing, it can be rational or emotional. The choice is in the hands of the customer. Nearly a year ago I had the honor of being inducted into the American Advertising Hall of Fame, an institution that celebrates innovation in advertising. And just last week, Stellantis announced a global marketing redesign, creating a dedicated office focused on creative excellence and brand strength. I couldn’t be prouder to continue to serve as the global Chief Marketing Officer 14 years later, in a company that not only values the importance of creative innovation, but also the continued protection and celebration of our iconic house of brands. Because of Sergio, we believe in playing like you have nothing left to lose. He used to say, “Mediocrity isn’t worth the trip.” This year’s Super Bowl creative execution and investment embody that spirit. I can only hope we made him proud. But it’s the pride on the faces of thousands of employees back at the Chrysler Technology Center in Metro Detroit that gives me goosebumps this morning. https://lnkd.in/gNQikdUU
