A recent NY Times article revealed a surprising (and a bit puzzling) trend —AI alone outperformed physicians using AI in certain studies. Dr. Eric Topol weighed in on these counterintuitive findings in a conversation with me last week, suggesting they may stem from physicians' lack of AI integration, automation neglect (bias against AI), or the limitations of small, controlled studies that don't reflect real-world clinical complexity. While AI is making impressive strides in research studies and pilot programs, do we have proof it will work in real-world patient care?
